hi i have been lookin around on the net n have found quite conflicting advice on potty training
i really wanted to start ryan about now and get him done as soon as possible, i know i've done it twice before but i cant remember how i even approached it with the older boys.... i've got the worst memory

so far i have been sitting him on his potty after his bath for a few minutes before i get him ready for bed, but i'm not sure how to take it to the next stage?

so any things you found helpful and wouldnt mind sharing i would be well gratefull

thanks in advance

lyn

im planing on doing B in the summer wot i plan to do is sit him on the toilet after each meal and before bed and as it should be nice weather let him run around outside with nappy on so he knows wen he has weed etc

i think it is way to early i was going to try with Dior and the hv gave me some great info on it, she said if you do it to soon it can be to stressfull for them. and they should not be potty trained untill they have good speach as its the same part of the brain used. i wont be starting untill Dior is 2 and a half

I started potty training my girls when they were 2,it was summer then which made things a lot easier :D xx

i started potty training my girls when they were 18 months, and my oldest was completly potty trained at 2 years and my other daughter goes all day without a nappy but still wears one at night

From what i can remember, i left my little one running round half naked, with the potty too hand.

Lots and lots of praise for anything that went in the potty and remembering that lots of accidents will happen.

I don't know how open you are with your kids but i used to take them to the toilet with me so they basically see what it's for, and used to sit them on for a few minutes even if nothing happened.

Good luck :D

Hi,
I think it is up to you when you begin potty training but i have heard that the later you start the quicker it takes. So if you start now it might take a couple of months but if you wait until 2 and 1/2 then may only take a week.

My daughter was just turned 2 when we started potty training and we did this as she kept hiding when going for a poo so we thought this was a sign that she was ready.

Good luck!!!!

my tip is to not even start trying to potty train until the child is 2 years old.
Its so stressful trying until the child is ready. And i find around 2 and half they just do it naturally.

Dior does this she is very embaressed when she needs to pooh and will always hide behind the sofa if i walk up to her she crys. Dior runs round the house half nakedmost of the time and when she starts wingeing i put a nappy on her and she fills it.
but im not going to potty train for a good year yet. although 2 box's of nappies a week cost a bomb!

I bet Dionne!!. I dont blame you for waiting I have heard that it doesn't take so long if they are a bit older. Where do you get your nappies from Dionne??

Thats very true!

I didnt start Zack till he was around 2 and 1/2. Left him with no bottoms on and he'd just go when he wanted. Got a potty in his bedroom and one in the living room. He has his last bedtime drink (which is basicly a couple of sips) at 7.20pm as im getting him ready for bed and no drink again till morning. Going to try getting him to sleep with no nappy on, but i think im going to have problems with the lazy sod lol

thanks for the replies, i think the boys were a bit older when i started them as it did seem pretty easy

but i think i've gone all competetive parent at the min as my friends 18 mth old just seems to do everything really early, sad i know

think after what everyone has said i will just keep sittin him on the potty after his bath so he's comfortable with his potty and then start doin it properly nxt summer when he's 2

Ive started potty training Kaiden at 9 months he sits on it for a few minutes every time i take his nappy off to change it, sometimes he does a pee in it, have to give him a toy to sit with as hes pretty active and does a runner nude, if he does a pee i clap my hands and show him it and he smiles. My mum trained us all early and we were off nappies at 18 months. XkelX

i buy two big boxes of pampers from asda every week, £12 a box :x

Abi has been going on the potty a while, she is still in nappies and i have no intentions of stoppinmg the nappies yet but i sit her on the potty at least once a day or i fing if she's struggling to have a poo i'll sit her on and within a few mins she goes really easy :), only reason i'm doing this is to get her used to it as my niece had the screaming abdabs when they tried to get her to sit on a potty, they're still having problems now and shes nearly 3.

wow that's a lot of money!
you can buy big packs (something in the region of 56 nappies) from Netto for about £7.
