potty training and underpants help please

Hi I have a problem with my son Judah who has decided he no longer wants a nappy now. If he is at home i let him wear nothing on the bottom and he uses his potty all day with no accidents.
But as it isnt the weather for him having nothing on his bum and he cant do this at nursery so i have tried him withn underpants on and his pants on, but he hates his underpants as he sees them as a nappy and i struggle to get them on.
He also wees in them as he sees them as a nappy.
How do i get him to wear underpants as its too cold for him wearing nothing and to realise its not a nappy?
I d like him to wear underpants as he has no accidentsand is defitnely ready but he isnt progressing as he wants a bare bum!!!
I have tried thomas underpants as he likes thomas but he screamed his head off.
Any ideas or has anyone been through this?

My 2 yo is exactly the same - he will quite happily go out with just his bottoms on but no pants whatsoever - so we just go out without pants now.

Its really frustrating as i wanted to wait until summer so he could run round with no pants on, but he has decided now is the time but he is freezing running round so i have to have the heating on full.
Its also becoming a problem for when we do go out its such a struggle getting a nappy and pants on.
How long has your little boy been potty training and will he not wear underpants or does he wee in them as well?
