Ok someone can hit me for this later lol..

When do you start producing milk? I heard that it doesnt come till a few days after you have the baby.. wont the baby starve?

How do you know that milk is coming out when your breastfeeding?

How do you know how much baby is getting?

I have no children - yet - but apparently you start breast feeding the minute the baby is born! thats what i understood. my nipples leek a little now and im only 14 weeks pregnant! wierd huh? x

Yeah thats weird LOL.. No leakage here..my boobs didnt even bother growing yet lol

You start breastfeeding straight after birth as there is a thicker milk at the front IIRC they drink through that and then they start getting milk once thats gone, i think it takes a couple days but they still get what they need from that. And you cant tell how much babies getting you just need to make sure they feed for long enough as once milk is fully in when they feed they get a thinner milk 1st and then the thicker milks behind that i think you have to feed for like 30mins on 1 breast for them to be gettng that milk. Im not deffinalty sure on this as was 4years ago i breast fed lol x

there are some other posts along the same lines, but from a while back... Merv's mum explained it really well, will head of to have a look at my subscribed threads in a minute to find the link

Your body starts preparing for producing milk quite early, some people this happens more dramatically than others but shouldn't impact on your ability to BF...

Yeah ul start leakin milk b4 baby is born, only way I realised wiv my 1st is the patches on the bed sheets and tmi but oh once got carried away and got a gobful, can't remember how far along I was at the time tho xx

My milk came in after I had Lacey but I didn't breastfeed with her and won't this time! Just the thought freeks me out which i know is stupid!!

You initially produce colostrum which is a kinda yellowy colour, it's really high in nutrients andstuff for baby, it takes on average 3 days for your proper milk to start coming in!

When you're feeding you can kinda feel the milk coming out plus they dribble  the babies I mean like!!!

And as for how much they're getting, you just have to trust your body and your baby really! I *think* the advice is to let them feed for as long as they want off one boob and then offer them the other!! Babies really are great at doing everything instinctively and they'll kbow how much they need!
