I’m looking for some advice my girlfriend and I (im male btw) we have just been for an early scan yesterday (02/04/19) we had no reason to go for an early scan but because we didn’t know the exact date of her last period only that it was sometime in January they got us in because the midwife thought we might have been further along because when my girlfriend took a pregnancy test on 22nd of feb the clear blue test said 1-2 weeks but the midwife said it could be further along that that. Anyway they struggled to find anything at first but finally did and we were told we had twins but they weren’t very hopeful and they believe she may have miscarried. They have however referred us for a weeks time just in case it is too early. We are both panicking and expecting the worst, just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and not really been told much about why she might have miscarried.

in a first loss they can't tell you why and unless you have multiple losses (I think over 3 ) they won't investigate because miscarriage is more common than people realise I think maybe 1 in 4 pregnancies ends in miscarriage.

what did you get to see in the scan? where there gestational sacs yolk sacs ? baby and heartbeat ? or did they just see empty sacs ?

I hope that when yous go back next week they have good news for you and your partner

It was all a blur to be honest they didn’t even explain anything about what was on the screen and as this is our first we had no idea what we were looking at. You could see two little dots but they were not right next to each other. I hope it’s good news too thank you

usually they can tell how far on you are by what stage your pregnancy looks in ultrasound by the sounds of it they were expecting to see more than they did in your partner's scan , at 5 weeks all we could see was a sac and yolk sac 2 weeks later a fetal pole and heartbeat. things in early pregnancy can change so quickly you may see nothing one day and a heartbeat a few days later .. hope that's the case for yous. but if you aren't happy with the way they have explained things to you phone the early pregnancy unit and ask them to explain what your scan has shown them as you will have a whole week to worry and not understand

I’m hoping it is just abit too early or the pregnancy is just moving slower than it should, I’ll suggest to her to ring them up, thank you.

They should definitely have explained it all better to you, if your partner got a positive pregnancy test feb 22nd that would make her around 4 weeks pregnant at that point, 1-2 on clearblue equates to 3-4 weeks pregnant, so by now they would be expecting her to be around 9 weeks pregnant and to see fetus and heartbeat by now - perhaps they didn’t see this so that’s why they are not optimistic about it, but it sounds like they haven’t explained what they’ve seen on the scan and just left you in the dark which is not good at all I would ring back, I hope you get good news though in the end, good luck
