They say that if you lie them on their tummies they're more at risk of SIDS, but some babies are happier like tat! I ws out thr other week and saw a woman with her baby on her tum in the pram fast asleep - at te same time I saw the midwife! She said to her don't look at thr way she's lay and thr mw actually said to her generations of babies were advised to sleep on their tums so it's not really an issue it's however they're comfortable! Government reccomendatiobs do say keep them on theirbacks tho x

Babies were always put to sleep on their tummies back in the day but like alice said, its reccomended that they sleep on their back now. I put all my boys down for the odd nap on their tummy during the day where i can watch them but i don't dare on a night just because (god forbid) if anything did happen i would totally blame myself. Saying that tho, all my kids did eventually settle on their back but if they couldn't sleep or get comfy any other way i probably would have considered letting them sleep the way they want to.

Jacob sleeps on his tummy all night every night now but he's 13 month and i have no control over it. This is obviously his comfy position xx

ohh thanks for the advice guys, that's really helpful, there's so many different rules and regulations i can't keep up! i mean most of them are common sense so you don't do certain stuff.. but today i asked 'cause of the hot weather could i give him some water inbetween feeds, but they said breast milk is all they need, which is fair enough. but i thought water might've settled him inbetween.. oh well i'm sure i'll get to grips with it all soon enough, hehe :) xxxx

i cant see the harm in giving a little cooled boiled water in this heat but if you are exclusively breast feeding, maybe using a seringe might be best. I'd ask mervs mum if your unsure on any BF issues, she is a breast feeding goddess lol xx

When you're bf you don't need added water, your boobies are really clever! They adapt to the heat so in summer when it's hot, you get more of the watery foremilk so that quenches their thirst! Even if you go abroad you won't need to give them water!

Ella sleeps on her front now, I used to turn her back over, but now I've figured she's obv comfy and if she's strong enough to turn herself over she's alright!

There was a big thing about cot death when I was a wee baby but my Mum said that WHATEVER she tried, I just managed to get back on my front! I still cant/wont sleep on my back! lol!

They do recommend they sleep on their back so keep perseverring (spelling?!) He'll get the hang of it i'm sure :) x

I always lay Jacob down on his back but 9 times out of 10 he sleeps on his front obviously this is his prefered position and I cant control which way he sleeps, even on his side he goes to sleep. Never on his back just like his Mummy xx

haha, seems like the natural comfy way for babies to sleep is on there front! i can't sleep on my back either, only on my side.. so i tried to lay him on his side but he went on his back! so fussy lmao. knows how to play his mummy already me thinks!

yeah thats what i was thinking cooled boiled water, but as you say, breast milk has all the nutrients for ickle one! i am BF but i have expressed sometimes too because he couldn't latch on to my boob full of milk when it just came in! he still prefers boob though (thank god) as i was well depressed he wouldn't want me! i got so emotional haha

xxxx

Til your feedings properly established, it's reccommended that you don't use a bottle as well! Just cos babies need to getvused to feeding and it can confuse them trying to feed from boobs and bottles cos they have to suck differently

Yep "back to sleep" is the latest catchphrase. I think there is concern that when the baby is tired he might just put his face into the matress and not have enough fresh air to breathe properly. But if its in the day time and you can keep watching him I dont see the problem. Ive seen some babies with really flat backs to their heads and it really scares me! I think its fine though once they grow but still, theyve obviously spent sooo much time on their backs!!

Its also realy important developmentally to have some awake play time on their tummy, if they dont, they dont tend to learn to crawl and skip out that part of development. Your boy is probably instincitvely wanting to get into that position at times :)

Like everyone said, years ago mums were advised to put babies to sleep on their tummies. But Im like toon, I couldnt do it at nighttime cos Id never forgive myself if something happened to my boy.

^^ ella had a really flat head at first! It's better now she's older and never bloody lays down tho!

yeah I keep saying to my mum about the flat head and she keeps saying, for goodness sakes they do carry on growing you know! lol

I think Im developing a little obsession with it!!

I was proper freaked by it! Thing is, due to back to sleep, head shapes are changing so if they've got a slightly flat head they're not really going to look out of place at school or anything iykwim?

yeah that is true, I think its just scary to see at the time! I wonder if hats will be different shapes in the future!

aww i've already made the mistake of giving it him by bottle (expressed milk) but he wouldn't latch on for hours long after his due feed so it was the only option i saw really. i try not to give him them much but if he's not latching on then i would rather he got some food down him! but i'd rather he nuzzle into my boobies hehe  xxx

Yea i know what you mean! Combined feeding does work well for some babies! Theyre all different after all!

he seems to be ok so far anyway, he'll suck anything as long as he gets food, he's so greedy!! lol. sometimes he'll want to be on the breast for an hour and he'll just be messing! deffo knows how to play his mummy already! hehe xxx

i got told to put lil man on his back but he rolls onto his side alot which is scarey lol. n his head lols wen he tries liftin he startin to get strong now lol.
when my lil man is hungry he will put his hands in his mouth or trys sucking his thumb its lovely lol. i like the fact hes tryin to show me he is hungry lol. xx
