hun have you still got that nhs pregnancy book? Theres a whole section on there about your rights. If your employer wont pay your statutory maternity pay you actually just get another government benefit which is exactly the same amount of money. I think its around £114 per week. Hope the council come up soon. Have you applied for working tax credits? You might get your tax back if OH not working and you not earning much. Working less hours doesnt affect anything, I only work 18.5 hours and its fine. You have to work more than 15 hours per week to get certain benefits cos under that and you may aswell just get another job!!!(in theory!)

oh really? that makes me feel a bit better about job then! and yeah i still have all the stuff i received when pregnant so i'll have a look - but that benefit sounds better anyway! i will phone up tomorrow and apply for everything i can! thanks hun that makes me feel a lot better that there's help out there! and we've bidded on three houses so hopefully one of them will become available, will let you know :) xxx

My last pregnancy i was screwed out of maternity pay so i had to claim it off the job center, i got the same from them as i would have from work, i only missed out on my 6 weeks at 90% pay from my employer. I'm still waiting to hear about my entitlement this time round so i'm hoping there not gonna take the mick again.

their so funny about maternity pay aren't they?! it's really bad. it makes you wonder why there is a rise in unemployment tbh! i hope yo get it sorted with you job. if you have a union you should check out what they have to say, and also phone benefits just to see what you're rights are maybe? xx

well i thought it'd be ok but apparently for the first 3 months i was a contractor so that makes me not entiled to it! thanks, i've bookmarked the page, i think im gonna have to talk to someone about my situation as it's really getting me down. i feel scared 'cause am not sure if i'm doing this or that right and paying the right stuff.. eurgh :(! xx

Dont let them pull a fast one. Talk to the CAB if need be :)

Oh god that sounds like a nightmare, hope you get it sorted soon xx

aw thanks guys. it certainly is stressful!! i work the most weird shifts too, even though it's from home, it's quite hard, i'd prefer a retail job 9-5 every day tbh! i'm doing 12-2am tonight and i am soooo tired :( but am a big girl i'll get by xx

Don’t forget that dads can also request flexible working, which could help you with child care. You can find more info about how to go about this at the Direct Gov Dad's at work site. Hope that helps and good luck!
