Ok I am new to this nightwear thing so need a bit of advice. I usually sleep wearing nothing or one of OH's T-shirts if its cold but I figured I'd need something a bit more substantial for after the birth in hospital. I prefer the look of PJs that are jersey type bottoms with vest/cami type tops but have no idea where to get them from. I've had a look at M&S, Next and other places on the net but can't find anything I like. Just wondered where you guys get yours.

Also is there anything that I should bear in mind seeing as I am buying them for hospital use? I realise that a button down nightdress would be easier for breastfeeding but I would feel much happier with some bottoms on. Just don't like the thought of possibly being in a nightdress whilst in a ward with other people's OHs and visitors wander about. (Please note I do realise that no one is going to be looking at me and that I will have lost all dignity from having gone through the birthing process - I would just feel more comfortable in PJs  :D )

The only dressing gown type thing I have a a big towelling robe which will probably take up all the room in my hospital bag on its own. I figure maternity wards are going to be pretty warm - so all the babies don't get cold, so I reckon I will need to buy a much more lightweight gown too. Is this right in most people's experience?

If I stay in for a couple of days, will I be lounging around in nightwear all the time or will I be encouraged to get dressed? Not sure whether to buy multiple night stuff in case I need OH to bring in more.

Thanks for your help :D

I bought some lovely PJs from George last time. I also bought a new dark dressing gown as my old one was lilac & I worried about embarrassing leaks/stains after the birth. I preferred to have a loose-ish top to lift up to breastfeed so that I didn't have to expose my whole breast in front of visitors.

Have a look in Tesco/Asda etc, the supermarkets can be really good for basics. I never bothered with maternity either, I just bought some in a bigger size.

I brought a pj set from peacocks think it was only about £5 its trousers and a vest top as figured would be fairly easy for breast feeding and is really thin material so is going to be cool whilst covering me up they're so comfy I totally live in them now, going to have to buy a new set so I have some to keep in my hospital bag :rotfl:

Thanks ladies, I shall check out both of those options :D

and of course...... primark !

I agree, I got some PJ's and a button down nightie from there (I think I would prefer the PJs like you) I also got some slippers and lightweight dressing gown- they are really cheap (£3-£6) so if there is any leakage etc :puke: I won't mind chucking them away if they get ruined. They also do plain knickers, £2.50 for a 5 pack so I stocked up on these for after the birth- they can be thrown away too if need be.

Oooh great I shall have to go and have a look in Primark (never been in one before as we don't have many round our way). I do wish they had an online shop too but hey I shall go and investigate the nearest one :D Thanks for the suggestions :)

I just wore some old house trackie bottoms for hospital. I packed a nightie but coz i'd gone into labour early hours i was already wearing these bottoms. Knickers cost a quid for 3 from Asda. You can get pj's for BF from Mothercare, but more money than Peacocks, George, etc.

Well when i was having my DS i packed 2 button down nighties to give birth in which i have kept for this time as well. :)

And i have packed a pair of Pj's which i got from peacocks in a larger size i got them for £2 in a sale.
(admittedly they have ladybirds all over them but i aint bothered whats on them)

I also got 5 pairs of knickers for £2 from ethel austins so i brought 3 packs and a pack of disposable ones. just in case. :) :)

I haven't bothered with a dressing gown this time either as i know i wouldn't have used it when i had DS so wont use one this time. hoping not to be in hospital long though.
I also got a pair of slippers with backs on so that i dont fall out of them when carrying baby about from shoe zone for £3. :)

I actually finished packing my bag this afternoon the last thing i needed to put in was a coming home outfit for me, which ive put in some lycra loose black trousers and a long top.(made the mistake of packing light colours when i came home with DS) major leakage once you've given birth and i didn't realise how much

i think thats it! ooopps a long reply - sorry xxx

I would say after giving birth to your LO you have the right to wear WHATEVER you like :D Some people like to get dressed etc and feel better for doing so, personally I lived in PJ's for a week and didn't care one bit about it, I would recommend some good, comfy slippers and a dressing gown, the dressing gown for when you're off to the toilet etc, not really for sitting around in, they hide a multitude of sins  oh and your feet/ankles could swell up after the birth (didn't know they could do that until mine did) so you may need BIG slippers/socks :shhh:

I'd recommend buttons on your top for BF'ing, but the importance is on your baby feeding well, and there's curtains around your bed, so don't feel you be all on dispplay if you don't have buttons on clothes, I remember one lovely moment where I had one boob in a breast pump and Isaac on the other, complete with OH and a MW watching, you kind of only focus on your baby and what's best for them

I only brought 2 with me and straight away the one got minging from birth and within hours id bled on the other one :wall: so id get some dark coloured cheapeys from primark or the supermarkets. I also brought a dressing gown to wonder round the wards in

I would definitely suggest some pj's but make sure they are dark - I thought I was being clever buying some pale blue and white ones that I could use afterwards - I was wrong! Just get some cheap nasty ones that are dark and you won't have issues throwing away or burning after!

Mothercare do some good ones that have cami tops that have buttons so you can breastfeed. Other places you can get them are jojomamanbebe and bloomingmarvellous but they are a bit more expensive. Also, you are right that you won't want a big fleecy kind of dressing gown as it is very hot in the hospital because of the babies. it is a good idea to have one though for dignity purposes when going to the loo etc.

Hope this helps you.

Best of luck
Sarah

primark is your friend ;)

re. BFing cami tops are PERFECT for it as are very low cut long sleeve t-shirts i didnt buy any specialist BF tops (i did buy a nursing bra tho) all i had to do was pull the top down on one side and pop a boob out! no need to even take ur arm out the sleeve/strap. easy-peasy!

Thanks for your recommendations ladies, I shall head out shopping sometime next week and check out the shops that you've all mentioned :D

Ooh I must be weird as i have to have a big fluffy dressing gown for the hospital!! Im always cold anyways lol but I feel more secure with a big thick dark dressing gown lol!
