Partners Paternity Leave

Just wondered whether any of you have sorted this yet and what sort of time off your other halfs are getting and do they still get paid?

My circumstances are probably a bit different to most as my hubby works off shore in Australia for a month on month off. He's just told them to see what paternity leave he can get. He's due home after a month away on Nov 3rd and my due date is Oct 28th, obviously this isn't very good, so he can come home one week early but thats only Oct 27th so a bit too risky. We're not sure what to do as if he comes home any earlier than one week he then loses half a months pay. Is this normal that men don't get paid anything?

Our thoughts are that money cant buy being there to see your baby born into the world and those first few days, so he will probably come home 2 weeks early from his shift on Oct 20th and we'll just 'wing it' with money around then. Its still a worry though, if I go more than 8 days early there is no way he will get back in time!

I know its a long way off just now but its still a bit of a worry and I'll need to find someone willing to be on standby as a birth partner for me just incase!

Can't help much hun but all I know is that my DH is entitled to 2 weeks paid paternity and I can share my maternity with him should I wish..... x

As far as I know all men are allowed two weeks paid paternity (£128ish per week) it starts the day baby is born.

Can he take some annual leave?

He doesn't get any annual leave, most off shore workers just get their shift rota and their off time is classed as annual leave. Might look into the paid paternity leave though as its better than nothing. Only thing is with not working in the uk not sure how this would work but he does pay uk tax so might be entitled.
