Hi ladies,
Im back again and ttc #2 and as things havent happened without planning and thought I had a few questions about ovulation.

I have longish cycles between 29 and 34 days so not really regular days wise but recently I have been having monthly pains and wondered if it was ovulation pains. Im going to start doing opk's but I was wondering if the pain was before, after or during ovulstion? Am I best temping to get results?

Could someone explain what I need to do re temping and could I use my little boys digital ear thermometer?! Lol

Any help would be appreciated. Also I dont tend to notice egg white cm, I did have creamy cm yesterday when I had the pain but it wasnt 'stretchy' like ovulation cm is?!

Im on day 15 today x

Hi Selina,

I will be watching this thread too as I am in a similar situation and dont really know when or if I ovulate. My cycles since I came off the pill in October 16 have all been quite long, on average 35-36 days. I am unsure of the ovulation pain and ewcm! It's all pretty new to me!
My main concern is now that my cycles are fairly long, it's more difficult to predict ovulation. Although since October I have actually been under a huge amount of stress with sickness and death in my family so I am wondering if thats a factor.

I was relying on an app to predict Ovulation days but I am going to try to get more precise, so have just bought OPKS and a thermometer to see if I can get ovulation more accurate.

I think you can use your boys ear thermometer as the one I purchased said it can be used for that too, so I'd assume so?!

Its all a learning curve trying to figure out and getting to know your own body!

Good luck

Hi selina, I've been ttc #e for 5 months. I am 41 and we conceived the other two when I was 30 and 32 so it's been a while. I've been using opk's for the last two months and temping. I read that you need a basal body temperature thermometer as these are much more accurate. You can tell once you've ovulated as your temperature should increase by around 0.5 degrees (an ear thermometer would not detect such small increases). I am not sure the ear thermometer will give you the most accurate readings as I started using my children's ear thermometer only to find out it wasn't accurate enough. I got my bbt thermometer in a pack from Amazon for £10 and it came with 20 opk's and 5 pregnancy tests do not a bad deal. I also use a cb digital opk too but that was £17 including 20 strips so quite pricey. Regarding the pain, everyone is different. I notice pain during ovulation. So last cycle I had cramps and the following day my temperature spiked suggesting I'd ovulated so I took the cramping pain as ovulation pain. This seemed to fit with my dates and checking my cm. I found the online app a little off as it predicted I would ovulate 4 days earlier than I did. I am currently approaching my fertile period and have noticed over* the last two days, having lots of creamy cm (sorry tmi). This is a sign that my fertile period is imminently someill be doing twice daily opk's and using my cb opk tomorrow morning. When the cm changes to egg white and more stretchy then I will know I am fertile and this should be backed up by the opk.

I hope this makes sense? I think once you have ovulated, you can get some creamy cm but then is usually dries up until af due. However, we are all different so you might not experience this.

Might be worth ordering a bbt thermometer. But just remember temping is good but it only allows you to tell once you have ovulated as your temperature spikes the following day usually. In other words, if you rely totally on this method you might miss your LH surge. It's more helpful once you have got to grips with your cycles as you can then start to predict, given your temperature chart, when you are likely to ovulate.

Good luck with temping and opk-ing!

Hi selina! Good to see you back, I'll be following suit in a couple of months! if you get ov pain it'll be during. Temping is the most accurate way to confirm ov but when I did it before I gave up pretty quickly as you have to be so consistent (same time of day exactly and in bed before you move each morning). Annoyingly you can't use a normal thermometer you have to get a bbt one as they measure to 2 decimal places so are more accurate. Like melly says you can get these quite cheaply on Amazon x

I have pain during ovulation :)
Temping you need to do at the same time each day lol it didn't work for me!
I remember you :)
I'm gonna be ttc number 2 as well xxx

Hey Candy I remember you too, Its lovely to see you here, its like catching up with old friends!
Melly & Love and peace thank you for your advice, never tmi here!
I did an opk cheapie this am as I had the pain yesterday but it wasnt posituve. Think will just have to dtd tonight and every otger day and see how we go, if it doesnt happen this month we will have to start cd10 instead just to make sure!!!

Thanks again ladies and sending all my love to each one of you xxxxx

I got this nice little pack https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B002VF8EXC/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I've been temping for over a year. I just do it when I wake up in middle of the night...probably always at a different time. I still get a clear pattern. I also use opks. It's a good combination. You mustn't move...just roll over and put it under your tongue. If you sit up your temp will go up. It's also worth tracking cervical mucus.

Opk is usually positive before ov I think 12-24 hours or maybe 12-36 hours before? Xx

Yeah what Millielaura said, if you had pains yesterday (assumed ov) it would make sense opk was negative today as they pick up the LH surge pre ov. But deffo dtd tonight as eggy hangs around a day?

Lololol at your bum thermometer!! Nice to see some of the old gang back haha! xx
