Should I be concerned?

I'm 5w 2d pregnant and for the last 2-3 days I've been having niggling aching/pinching on the left side. I know it's common to have slight aching/cramping in early pregnancy but I expected it to be an all over type of ache. Where as the aching/pinching I'm having is in left side only. I don't have any other symptoms, no spotting etc and its not so intense that I need to take painkillers. But it's annoying and uncomfortable.

Is this normal?

Completely, I had this around 4/5 weeks in both pregnancies and then it subsided. If you’re worried get checked out xx

It can be normal, but it can also be a sign of ectopic pregnancy, so I'd get it checked just in case.

Thank you for the replies.

I've been reading online and there are mixed opinions on what it is, so as a precaution I've given the midwife a call and left a message on their answer phone. Hopefully I'll hear back at some point today xx

Emma i am sure it is nothing but being precautious is the best thing. Hope everything is ok <3 xx

It's almost definitely nothing but good on you for being safe :) I had pain in one side early on and thought it might be ectopic, when I was referred for a scan it turned out baby was just nuzzled in that side. Fx that's all it is for you too.

Booked in for an app at EPAU on Friday. She didn't discuss a plan of action just told me to come in for a check up. So not sure if they just do a physical exam, bloods, or scan. But hopefully they'll be able to shed some light on the situation xx

That's good Emma.
Fx everything is fine, be sure to keep us updated <3 x

Fingers crossed it's just everything moving around in there! Good that the EPAU are going to see you. Hopefully they do an early scan to rule out an ectopic and give you some peace of mind :)

As the other ladies have said, I'm sure it's normal, but good that EPU will see you tomorrow. x

It's pretty much stopped now, so i'm thinking it was just settling in pains/ligament. Not sure whether to continue with the appointment tomorrow or cancel. I don't want to be seen as wasting their time :/

I think you should go ahead with the appointment Emma. If will put you at ease if anything xx

So i went for the scan today. Couldn't see any obvious reasons for the aching/pinching, confirmed the pregnancy is in the uterus where it should be. Couldn't see much, just a sac and yolk but she said it's measuring bang on date. However, she found a sub-chronic hematoma :( and my heart sank. I had one of these with the pregnancy that ended in a mmc. She said it was only small but it is near the baby. She didn't seem concerned and said she sees them alot. I was told that the last time too and it ended badly, so i'm a little skeptical that this will be any different. Even the report says 'viability uncertain' so says it all really. I'm booked in on the 19th for a follow up scan xx

I reckon they only put ‘viability uncertain’ as it’s too early to see a heartbeat and I think that’s the dealbreaker for a very early scan rather than they think it’s a dodgy bean. Least you know it’s in the right place and measuring ok. Stay positive. You’ll be awesome.

My friend had this when she went for her 12 week scan and she’s now 17 weeks and things are going really well and the bleed has completely vanished now. Sorry you’re having a stressful time of it but there are lots of positive stories of people with sub chronic haematomas. Keeping everything crossed for you x

Yep the uncertain viability just means no heartbeat, which is what you'd expect so early on. Don't worry!! Hematomas are really really common, its probably not what caused your MMC. It'll probably be gone at your next scan. Baby is where it should be and is growing on track, that's great news. :)

 stay positive, it sounds like hematomas are quite common, but i understand why you are worried based on previous experience. x
