Iv been told i have Strep B about 40% of pregnant women get this due to hormones (its very dangerous if passed to newborns and can cause meningitus and pnumeonia) but its not a big deal in the UK, here in Canada everyone is tested for it, i didnt get tested for it in the UK pregnant with DD, but i am so stooOopid searching on google for facts about it and scared the s*** out of me to say the least. The fact i birth quickly and need to get two doses of antibiotics in me beofre she comes out, what it could do if passed to her, and im sooo scared of needles and would prefer to have no pain releif if it envolved needles. i dont care how much pain im in, i cant deal with injections, even thinking about them. i only had G&A with my DD because of this and coped great so i was so looking forward to the birth again just with abit of G&A, but i read the comments of these girls who had the same thing and the antibiotics and im so scared now

Hi hun

please please please try not to google    I too am in the same position as you and have to have the IV antibiotics. I would trust your midwife on this one and what they say.
My midwife told me they like to get 2 doses into you before baby is born,. if this doesnt happen then the baby will be given antibiotics (either needle or oral) as a precaution. After that they are checked every 4hours for any signs of infection.

Please try not to worry and I would talk to your midwife about your concerns about what you've read.... the percentage of infection that is passed on to newborns is quite low I think

I'm talking to my midwife in further detail at my next appointment (only caught her briefly at antenatal class this week :) )

xxxxxx

Step away from the google hun your midwife will know whats best for you

omg i just did the same things - googled!! although its a completely different thing and the only worry i have is that my baby is transverse, i didnt think its a problem. ITS A BIG PROBLEM!!! after 32 weeks its really serious, if my waters break (which its likely they will) If the baby isnt out within an hour of so and contractions start pushing on baby who physically cant move he will get seriously distressed and could cause both mother and baby fatalitys!!!

stop googling!!! i will if you will.
You'll be absolutely fine, just remember they're dealing with GBS everyday and have seen every case of it therefore they know exactly what to look out for. If they were really worried about you or baby they would have you in hospital wouldnt they? the fact that they are happy for you to be at home on an IV or not shows that they are not overly concerned and therefore you shouldnt be.
You'll both be absolutely fine - i will take my advice as well :)
big hugs
Hope you can relax a little bit, it seems to be normal for women to have a little panic or worry when reaching term so try to chill and enjoy the last few days or so (as im sure your going to be early  )
xxx
