The past couple of days Chloe has been much better at breastfeeding, we've actually had a couple of successful feeds each day instead of complete refusal. However because she is teething she has started clamping down on everything which today included my nipple

I don't mind the pulling and yanking that I get when she is fussing at the boob but this was different. She actually clamped my nipple between her gums and wouldn't let go, I couldn't even slip a finger in to unlatch her and the pain was excrutiating.

I really don't want this to mar the progress we're making so does anyone have any ideas how I can stop her doing it?

when she lets go just take away the boob for a bit and say no, even if she dosent totally understand she will get the idea eventually. id use the lansinoh for a bit too just to make them supple and protect them a bit

Ouch. Yeah I heard you're meant to unlatch them for a while and they get the idea but I bet it's easier said than done, let us know how you get on.

I can sympathise hun, when I was trying to bf Albert would clamp his gums round my nipple and grind it really bloody hurt and made both my nipples bleed badly. Thank God he didn't have any teeth, that must be agony!!!! Would nipple shields help? xxxxxxxxx

Bev the lansinoh never leaves my side and I'm definitely going to be using it lol

I've tried nipple shields and neither of us could get on with them

I've heard about the unlatching and saying no but wondered if she was still too young for it to be effective? I tried last night and she just smiled at me.
