Hi guys anyone else's oh self employed? I leave work in 2 weeks and officially start my maternity pay on Oct 19th. I know I'm just getting the basic maternity pay from work. 90% pay for first 6 weeks then £139 a week after that (please correct me if I'm wrong)

With my oh being self employed I haven't a clue if we are entitled to any other benefits like child benefit or tax credits. What do I have to do to find this out? Any info will be much appreciated. :)

Im sorry I dont have an answer but will be stalking as in the same boat as you so would like to know myself. Anyway hope you are doing ok I remember you from the ivf thread! Wishing you all the best x

I think it's all based on household income rather than him being self employed, not 100% though!
Maybe give HMRC a call xx

congrats on your pregnancy!!!! hope you have a breezy 9 months, bet your over the moon :)

Hi vegas! My OH is self employed and he wasnt entitled to any paternity pay or compensated leave when DS arrived. But we were entitled to child benefit which i think (but dont quote me) everyone is. Not sure re tax credit though x

Im pretty sure the mw gave me the form for Child Benefit at the hospital after the birth. You'll have a certain amount if time to fill it in and send it off then they pay you back from the day your baby is born. Ooh just remembered, if your total household income exceeds a certain amount you wont be able to claim child benefit. Im not 100% sure on the exact figure but i think its around £50k p/a. Someone correct me if im wrong on all this xx

Just had a quick read online and I think u apply for child benefit after the birth. Think its 20 quid a week. Looks like everyone is entitled to it. I hate having to organise stuff like this! Ha ha. Not gonna lie it's going to be a big wake up call when my wages go down to less than half. Anyone else worrying a bit?

Im losing over a grand a month
Im dreading it

Yeah me too. Wish I had a job where I at least get full pay for a bit ha ha

I work for local government, I get 90% for 6 weeks & provided I confirm that I will return I get 50% (+SMP) for the next 12 weeks.

If in doubt look on money advice service or speak to citizens advice. The gov.uk website also has some useful information too

X

My husband self employed. I am still entiled to SMP and child benefit which u get the form in the bounty pack they give u when u had baby. We arnt entitled to anything else. You can go on the gov website and it has a calculator thing and tells you if an wat you could claim. U need all yours and hubby's income details xx

We're losing £1000 a month and it terrifies me. We've both been saving as hard as we can since our BFP and we've been saving separately for Christmas since January. We have one of those pot of dreams that you smash once full for Christmas. We only put £1 and £2 coins in it and a few notes to try and cover Christmas. Plus we've told family we are only buying proper presents for the kids in the family and everyone else is just getting little presents like novelty socks or something. Nobody is too bothered about getting loads of presents anyway, we'd rather spend the time together. Xx

Have a look on the government website as that will tell you what you need to know. Just remember when it asks you for your earnings for the year to deduct £100 per week, for every week on maternity. You Unless your OH is earning enough to pay higher tax you will qualify for the family allowance - or whatever it's called these days. £20 per week for the first child, £13.45 or so for the next. You will probably be entitled to tax credits too, but their website will give you all the info you need xx

You've defo got the right idea with just buying for the kids at Xmas. We'll be doing similar. Just small presents this year for people. I think a new baby in the family is the best present they can get ha ha :)
