Lyla has been sick the past week with bronchitis and a lung infection.

She gets hungry roots for the breast but when I offer her it she screams as if in pain and like I'm trying to kill her. She gets really worked up and really upset as she wants to feed just won't take the breast at all.

I've ended up expressing and feeding her but I want her back on the breast.

I had to prop her up in bed and lean over her earlier for her to latch at all and then she ate for ages! And my arm got sore leaning on it

Any tips on how to encourage her back on?

It was but not at all now and she still wont feed from me

I had this and tried nipple shields. After 2 days of expressing, he went back on with nipple shields, I was so relieved! then I started taking them off half way through the feed, then eventually he went back on the breast (about4-5 days). Good luck Hun, it's so upsetting when they go this.

I tried all the positions I could think of even laying her beside me in bed and still she screamed :( I could only get her to eat leaning over her like I was a bottle :wall:

She starts crying the minute I get her in position even before offering the breast like she knows its coming and gets upset. But if I hold her she has turned round and tried to latch through my top then when I open it up for her she cries?

I might try nipple shields.

My pump has broken aswell so I know my supply is decreasing :( I ordered a medela swing so I can get the supply back up but it's heartbreaking because breastfeeding was going so well. :(

Sorry you are going through this hun.

I would personally get yourself into bed loads of skin to skin with LO, co bathing, laid back nursing and cut out bottles for a few days if you can. This is how I got C to latch on after seven weeks.

Get someone to bring you food and water and just feed, feed, feed xx

I agree. We did lots of skin to skin in those days, tried every position. Nipple shields and stress free feeding were the only thing that worked. The minute he got upset we used a bottle or shields.

We had three of these with Georgia. Don't panic (easier said than done I know!) as she will pick up on your stress. Lots of skin to skin time. Try taking a bath with her, and feed in the bath. Try dream feeding, or when she's just waking up.

Standard advice is to avoid bottles at all costs, but that depends on age of LO, I never managed that.

Trust that this will pass!!

Kelly mom has great info on nursing strikes!! But feel free to pm me if you have questions. X

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Thank you for all your help girls! I'm going to invest in some nipple shields today and see if that helps.

Lyla was at creche for the first time yesterday and must have missed me because when we got home I tried latching her and she went on with only a few tears and ate from both breasts then fell asleep while nursing which was great. Such a nice feeling after all that. She then woke up a few times panicking because she wasn't latched on still and went straight on. However tried her again later on in the day and she screamed again...

I've been expressing but only getting very small amounts at a time, my pump is nearly dead and buried though its rubbish so I invested in a Medela Swing as I send Lyla to creche with 8 oz of breast milk a day so I'm hoping once I start pumping more regularly this will help my supply increase again and I'm gonna keep trying to get Lyla back on the breast fully.

If by next week she isn't I'm going to go to a breastfeeding group we have here every thursday and see if they can help.

Oh didn't realise tickers didn't show here.. Lyla is 9 weeks. xx
