Hello ladies,

This is my first post as I only joined the group yesterday.

I'm trying to figure out all the abbreviations and jargon.

This is my first time trying to conceive and I am pretty clueless to what to expect, and already feeling bonkers.

My periods have been a little irregular over the last 4-5 months and I even missed one entirely in May (wasn't TTC at that point) but, based on my last period I was ovulating around 3rd July.

It's been 15 days since my husband and I 'did the deed' in an attempt to conceive and 15dpo. I took 2 early response pregnancy kits bit both BFN. I did take these too early as I was super impatient so took these at 8dpo and 10dpo. I haven't tested since.

My period was due yesterday and no sign yet. But as I've been on/off irregular over last few months I'm not reading too much into that.

I'm nervous to test but know I'll be gutted if period arrives! I don't 'feel' pregnant and am totally over analysing everything I feel right now in case it's a sign...its doing my head in.

Should I do a test??? Or just hold out for the week and see if I come on.

Arghhh this is only our first time trying and I'm already driving myself insane.

Xxxx :roll:

Hi and welcome

I used this site when trying for my first little one and found it super helpful before during and after my pregnancy. You'll get the hang of the jargon but also pretty sure there will be some posts with a breakdown of it on too somewhere.

If I was you I would probably be testing if you think you are past the date your period would be due. Don't be disheartened if it doesn't happen this first month though. If you are not regularly doing the deed (I go for every other day from CD7 to CD21 to cover all bases) then it may take you a few months to tune into when you ovulate so you can dtd at the right kind of time.

[To decode my message- dtd is do the deed, CD is cycle day, ttc is trying to concieve and you obviously know dpo is days past ovulation.]

Good Luck ttc

Welcome to the forum.

As above but...

Ewcm = egg white cervival mucus
Bd = baby dance (sex)
Tww = two week wait (between ovulation and af)
Af = Aunt flo (period)
Ntnp = Not trying, not protecting (not actively charting ovulation or seriously trying to conceive but not protecting either and hoping it happens)
Bdnp = Baby dancing, not protecting

That's all I can think of at the moment.

My only bit of advice if you want to test before af is to use the superdrug early detection tests. They are 10miu/ml (measure of sensitivity) and so more sensitive than any others on the market...and stay away from blue dye tests or digital tests until at least a few days after your period is due as they are not as sensitive...the digi's can give false negatives and the blue dye stick tests, especially clear blue seem to be giving lots of faint false positives at the moment.

Fx for you. Xxx

**fx = fingers crossed**

Welcome! I can see that others have ably explained the jargon and the TLAs (three letter acronyms ;) )

Oh yeah...(pregnancy tests)

BFP = big fat positive
BFN = big fat negative

Oh thanks guys, those messages are really helpful.

Well 18dpo, 4 days late with AF but still BFNs.

Xxx

You can be 5 weeks pregnant and only have a number of 18 for your hcg. Most tests are 20-25miu (MIU is the sensitivity measure of hcg in urine, ask if you need to know more) so, if your hcg is low and you're using a standard test, you might not get a bfp yet.

Superdrug early detection are 10miu and the most sensitive on the market and most women prefer pink dye tests to blue dye tests.

Fx for you xxx

Thanks _GG_

I actually used one of the Superdrug ones but still a BFN. My periods have been more irregular lately so wondering if I've actually got my ovulation wrong. Last period was 19th-23rd June but I missed one entirely in May for the first time ever.

What is it about the blue dye that makes them not as good as the pink dye tests?

Just wanted to say hi and welcome hehe I think everyone has this covered well so fx for u. Anything u need to know just ask xx
