Hi all,

I have been wanting to leave my job for a long time, a couple of the women there are horribly nasty to some of the other women and have been like that to me too (made sly remarks towards me about my miscarriages and about children with disabilities-my son has autism). Anyways, I have been putting off leaving as ttc and worried about falling pregnant as soon as I get another job. I am over that now and am not putting my life on hold anymore in regards to that but I am a bit concerned about my reference from them. I am a very hard worker and do everything as I should, I even do some of the managerial jobs with no pay increase, I am worried because one of the women I spoke about above is the assistant manager and will probably have input on the reference, I can imagine she will not be overly complimentary on purpose (she is that nasty) and I am also concerned that they will write that I had loads of time off, last year I had an erpc so had few days off for that and then had a laparoscopy which I obviously needed time off for; 5 days in total. This won't look good to new employers but it was time off that I couldn't help of course. Its just making me worried to try for another job, does anyone know if they can count it as time off? that might be a really stupid question? x

Hi liseeyyy
sorry to read your having a rubbish time women can be awful and rude especially at work it makes me so angry how off hand they are

anyway in regards to a new job I wouldn't worry it cant stop you finding another job legally they cant give you a "bad" reference so I have been told

normally on job applications they ask you have you had any time off in the last 12 months absences etc so for your new job write them down no one can refuse a job for such sensitive issues or not give you a chance. Its not detrimental to their work place and employers respect honesty.
I say go for it before your job wears you down and comes the day you just dont go back

The women in my job are the same ive been there four months and looking for another job its just horrible xx

As above hub they can't give u a bad reference, I wud explain in the interview that u aren't happy in ur job and that whilst u only had a few days off last yr they may try to make it sound more so that they know what to expect. If u r right for the job then they will defo appreciate honesty. Good luck hun hope u find sumthing soon.

I would go for it. You can explain the reasons why you were off either on your application form or in interview. I'd be wary of being overly critical of your current employers in interview as that can put off potential new employers. Good luck xxx

Thanks everyone, I did think about mentioning it if its on the application or if I get to the interview stage but I will be careful not to say too much of the negative stuff about them. It will be hard though when they are so horrible but I know it wouldn't look good to do that.
I feel better now about trying to go for another job :) It kept playing on my mind that they will try their hardest to make it difficult for me. I do all the weekly planning there and I know they wont want to do it themselves.

Being in such a negative place really can get you down, I hope you find something new soon honeybear xx
