Hi all, I had my BFP last weekend at 14dpo :) The line was very faint though so I've tested everyday since. Today I am 18dpo and I tested with a more sensitive test from Superdrug and, for the first time, the line seemed strong. Has anyone else taken this long to get a strong line? I'm also unsure as to what happens next as this is my first baby. I am hoping to see my GP in about 2 weeks time when I will be 7 weeks pregnant. Will I have a blood test when I see my GP and does this test hcg levels? I've heard some people talk about having low hcg levels and the possible risks of miscarriage. This isn't something I was aware of. Now I'm a bit worried that my hcg levels will be low as my test took so long to show a strong line

Some places won't test for pregnancy at all and will book you in to see a midwife usually between 8-11 weeks.
Other places are self referral to a midwife.
It's at your midwife appointment that they take your bloods, height, weight, bmi and background history (usually) and following on from that, your 12 week dating/nuchal scan.

As far as I'm aware though they don't check for hcg levels routinely. This is only done if you have had previous mcs or are experiencing bleeding or strong cramps in the early stages of pregnancy.

A lot of ladies won't find out about their pregnancy until 5-6 weeks gone or a week after a missed period so I think to get a line at 14dpo is pretty good. It can get darker as the hcg levels rise (doubles every 48 hours I think?) But not necessarily. There are lots of other factors so don't stress yourself out over it! :)

Oh and Congratulations hun! :D xXx

Hi Lijah, I'm 4 weeks and it's my first too, so I don't know what to expect at all! I think we just have to take it one step at a time and not worry too much :) I'm going to try to get to the docs next week and see what I need to do. Congrats to you!

Flicks explained it all beautifully up there so no need to repeat it! Try not to worry about these things, sometimes these forums can plant worry because they make you aware of things you wouldn't otherwise be. If you've got no problems, try not to worry. The likelihood is that everything's going to be fine xx

I saw my gp at 4 weeks, told me to book mw app 4 weeks later. Now waiting for my dating scan to come thru. Nobody did a pregnancy test on me, only had y bloods taken at mw app last week. This is my first too.
Congratulations though, hope you enjoy it, my little baba is giving me hell atm. Xx

Thank you everyone. I've booked in to see my GP in about a weeks time. Exciting times, but I'm so nervous that something will go wrong too. This is a much wanted baby

Congrats Lijah, hope all will go well.
I am in the same boat, really do not know much about what is happening etc and really really excited and much wanted baby for me as well!
It is been over a week now since I told the doctors and the midwife was supposed to call to make an appointment and I am really annoyed this has not happened yet so I will have a fun session calling the practice tomorrow. Could really do wit h them explaining me what will happen, what to watch out for and can;t wait to get a date for a scan! But we will just have to take it step by step and see what happens. At least you know the seccond time around you will know more about everythin that is about to happen

Congrats Lijah and welcome. Thanks Flick for the summary of how it all works, I am a bit clueless as well as this is my first pregnancy. In a way it feels weird that everyone takes your word that you're pregnant and then that you don't even really know for definite if there's anything in there until the scan at 12 weeks! I really struggle with uncertainty so this period is a test of patience and a lesson in calmness for me!

This is my second pregnancy but I remember all too well last year waiting for bloody letters to come through the door with scan dates etc! Its such a frustrating time but you just need to try and distract yourselves and before you know it 12 weeks is on you! Worse case you can always pay for an early scan. Its actually quite fascinating as I had an 8 week scan and she was just a blob with a heartbeat and then 12 weeks came and BAM she had legs and moved!! Good luck all of you with your pregnancies, enjoy every second :). Oh and I didn't have bloods taken for hcg levels either at the first appointment... don't worry you'll feel like a pin cushion by the end! ;) x

Just make sure you are talking folic acid and vitamin d. Flicks advice is right in my area too but others could differ just check with your surgery.

This is also my first and have no clue what to expect. I had my first me appointment 3 weeks ago and my scan is booked for the 28th of icy. It's just a waiting game. I haven't had any blood tests yet (apparently my first bloods will be alongside my first scan). Every time I'm sick I'm great full that there are still symptoms lol. A learning curve for all of us! Congrats xx
