I've received a letter from tax credit people, as I claimed it last year end of December and paid me for two month then stop because I want join claim which was a mistake as my partner dont want to claim as he said we cant get because he thinks we cant get which doesn't make a sense> Okay, cutting the short short, the letter they said said they over paid me and want the money back, what shall I do??

if I ask for back dated n my child credit and may pay it off from there, am stuck dont know what to do, please help?

You have to have a joint claim if you live with your partner, whether he wants to claim or not. That's how I understand it.
So if you haven't buy he lives with you then you are likely to have been over paid.
Give them a call x

I have had this issue as well and we are disputing it with the tax credits x

Me too and I'm disputing it as well.x

From what I've heard, if they say you owe it then you owe it and you have to pay it back, regardless of whether it's their screw up or yours. As the poster above says though, if you live together then it has to be a joint claim, so if you claimed on your own then it was fraudulent and you will have been overpaid.

No, if its an overpayment caused by their mistake, they usually write it off, that's what they told me on the phone, but you have to fill paperwork in so they can recheck all the information given to them.x

Sorry Hun, but even if its their mistake you have to pay it back usually. This happened to a few people I know!

If you claimed as a single then that's fraud and you def need to pay back x

If it is the tax office mistake that u have been over paid they write it off Hun xxx

If u have claimed thou while ur partner is living with u then you will have to pay it back Hun x

You can only back date a claim for one month. From what other people have posted about tax credits, if the mistake is in the same claim period (6th april - 5th april following year) then they will claim it back by reducing your current claim. If its in separate claim periods like yours would be, then they make you pay it back separately. You can ask to spread it over 12 months but have to show all income and outgoings to show you can't afford to pay in a lump sum. If you live together as a couple, you have to claim jointly.

I'm disputing an overpayment request too. They aint gettin it cuz it was their mistake which I informed them of 3 times! X
