My LO feeds pretty much every hour in the daytime but goes 2-4 hours at night. I never thought anything of it but the doctor said today that it's a lot and must be hard going on me sp she suggested ringing them. Tbh I don't notice as it's what I'm used to. He feeds, has a play, sometimes another feed and sleeps for 20-50 mins then it starts again.

Am I doing something terribly wrong?

Part of me doesn't want to ring incase I have and they tell me off.

He seems happy and is putting weight on and I'm fine with his feeds it's just difficult taking him out. I want to get the train to my mums but i wouldn't want him feeding a feed as we're getting off the train or something. Having said that if we are outside he'll go longer without food!

YOu're not doing anything wrong hun!! Tyler is gaining weight and is healthy...he may just need a little bit of help to change his routine so that you get a bit more of a break :) well done you for doing every hour for 2 months :) you should be so proud not worried :) xxx

Totally agree xx

Does he tend to fall asleep on the boob too soon at night?

He feeds for about 10 mins but sometimes he wakes up and goes a bit longer

The doctor also recommended we give him infacol, would his wind make him want to eat so often??

Blimey well done! You deserve a medal! Maybe if he doesn't have wind, he'll have bigger less frequent feeds. Get the advice but do whatever what you feel is right

I've only read the first post, not all the replies, but just wanted to say your LO sounds completely normal! How old was this doctor? They used to have very different feeding methods. BF works best while feeding on demand rather than forcing LO to go longer between, which is what they used to do.

At your LOs age my LO was still feeding that often and not going much more than 4 hours between feeds. Sometimes he would feed for a few mins, other times he wouldn't unlatch for hours, even if he wasn't feeding was just attached to me. I just let him set the pace and followed his lead. By 3 months it was alot longer between feeds.

She was middle age. I thought it was normal until she said something. Should I just see if the dentinox helps before doing anything?

Dentinox?

I don't think there is anything wrong with him at all, he sounds perfectly normal and you shouldn't be worried. He will start going longer between feeds.

Do ever latch him on because you think he should be due a feed or does he always ask?

If there are times when you offer to see maybe try leaving them out and see if it makes him feed more when he actually asks? That way he will start going longer between naturally.

You are feeding on demand so you therefore feed when he wants it and if that is every hour then so be it!! Harry feeds every 2 hours during the day sometimes and I think that anything from an hour to 4 hours is normal!!
xxx

Sounds similar to us but he has a long nap 2-3hrs in the morning and 2-3hrs in the evening. He's happy, you're happy, you're both healthy. Can't be anything wrong with that! Maybe ringing the BF people to find out about stretching it out between feeds and you can take or leave the advice?

Sounds totally normal to me! Kynon has the same kind of feeding pattern (as you probably know!) he rarely goes 4 hours and the only time he slept longer was because of his jabs! I've just accepted it now and I've got used to the 2 hourly night feeds after 5 months! Does Tyler always go back to sleep after a night feed? Kynon does, so it does make life easier. I think some babies are just more hungry and sleep less than others. Your doctor sounds a bit old fashioned but a bf support group would still be a great help, they reassured me i was doing nothing wrong, gave some good tips and advice and made me feel much better i wasn't doing anything 'wrong' :)

Oooft I'm torn now. He's still groggy from his jabs so gonna give it a couple of days before I ring them.

I've been paying close attention to Tyler's 'routine' since this and he -

Wakes up
Feeds for 15 mins
Plays 45 mins to an hour
Gets tired
Nappy change
Sleep 30mins ish

If he's getting tired every hour or so, surely he needs feeding?

I think it can get analyzed too much. Because we can't see how much milk they are actually taking in it's hard to make a judgement, but your LO is gaining weight, healthily and is happy and thriving so I think he's fine and just relax and enjoy him!!!

His routine looks fine, Oz used to feed loads more than that from me, but I think half the time he was latched for comfort more than actual food, his weight gain was always healthy and steady and I never worried about it after the first few months.

As the months go by you do get more confident with it, just follow LOs lead hun, think you're both doing fine!

I wasn't worried until she said something! Lol damn doctors!

BLoody nhs make you out to be a bad mum sometimes for breastfeeding!! I got pulled aside the other day coz harry isnt an enourmous fat boy!! He is putting on weight and he is as fit as a butchers dog but I get asked all the questions about if i am feeding him enough!! I feed him when he is hungry or when I feel he needs it which is normally 2-3 hours during the day and slightly longer at night!!
xxxx

N feeds the same amount, its only been since 4.5 months has he gone longer than 2hrs during the day, I've always assumed it to be normal for a bf baby so I wouldn't worry too much, if your happy, he's gaining weight then all sounds good to me xxx

There's a new post below about what the HV said totally gutted!
