I'm pregnant but not due untill late July. I'm a full time university student on the first year of my degree - my exams are all over and we finish in June. I think its aloud to take one year out of study when you have a child but I'm not sure.

I want to know what benefits I'd be able to access - because I haven't been working.

Thanks.

To be honest, not a lot.
Once baby is here you'd get child benefit (£18 a week) and child tax credit (at least £20 a week). You are not currently eligible for working tax credit, statutory maternity pay or maternity allowance.

If you got a job now you would be entitled to more when baby arrives. To get maternity allowance you have to work for 26 weeks in the 66 weeks before baby is due and earn at least £30 each of those weeks. Maternity allowance is £117 a week or 90% of your average earnings, whichever is lower. You send 13 weeks payslips to them so you can choose the ones with the most income.

Otherwise you may be able to get income support but I don't know.
