Hi, i'll try to keep it as short as poss. grace has always been small. she does not put on weight very well. the last few weeks she has turned into a really clingy baby who gets upset all the time and is waking up every hour during the night. she starts crying and we cant seem to calm her. it gets to the point where she is so distressed she throws up everywhere. not just a little bit either. by this time she is in such a state and you then have to change her and calm her down. after this she will not take any fluid, water or milk. then we start again with her waking up every hour. since she has started being sick her weight has dropped so she is on the bottom line on the growth chart. took her to docs today and he was not happy that hv had not told him about her earlier so we are now being refered to a paediatrician. we also have to check in case she has a bladder infection. so ladies 2 questions..... how on earth do you collect wee from a 6 mth old ( in a pot and on a stick) and has anyone else had experiences with paediatricians? ? trying not to worry but you know what its like. any advice would be really hepful.

No experience with pediatricians I'm afraid but when I had to collect wee from Ryan I was told to put cotton pads/buds in his nappy and squeeze them out into the tub when I changed him. :|

I didn't have to do it in the end as he got better but it sounds like it could work.

Daniel sometimes wees when we change his nappy. If your LO is doing it, maybe just try to keep some sort a cup, which you can put under essential areas in a vital moment.

Hope your daughter gets better soon

she does not wee very often when we change her. will try cotton balls in her nappy. i had her nappy off for hours with no wee. she is in bed now and i bet her nappy is soaking when she gets up, sods law. :wall: would really like to get it done today so can send it off tomorrow otherwise we will have to wait til monday.

There are special pads you can get to put into their nappy to collect a sample but we got ours from the hospital so I dunno how you would do it at home :?

Ryan was under the paediatricians care until he was about 6 months cos he weighs very little and he didn't start drinking milk properly until about that time. To be honest with you, or at least from my experience, it's kind of reassuring being in their care. Ryan had regular appointments where they weighed him and checked him over properly rather than just asking questions and sending you away like the doctors usually do, and his consultant was really really good.

Ryan's weight now is almost on the bottom of the chart, he's gone from the 25th centile to just below the 2nd and he'll probably have to be seen by the peads again.

There's nothing to worry about, like I said it's actually more reassuring because they can give more specific care than the doctor or health visitor can. Let us know how things go
