What do you all think about the meanings behind names? Do you think there is much in it? I'd like to know where some of them come from. Obviously some will have religious connections, but I'm not sure what I think about more modern names.

Part of the reason we chose Thea's name was its meaning. Its a shortened version of the Greek name Dorothea and it means Goddess and Gift from God.

Zoe is Greek for life and I've always loved having a name that I associate with such energy and optimism, especially as I was given it because I was a poorly premature baby.

I'm generally a positive person, I don't know if that's down to the name but every Zoe I've met has been pretty vivacious too so there may be something in a name after all! :)

I had a dog called gypse once... it ran off.....I really think about names now

i'm all up for names that have meaning and that are a wee bit older as they have stood the test of time. Not keen on the developing trend for brand names.

:rotfl: you crease me up sometimes hun!

I really go for names with meanings, our choices are:

Danyaal for a boy - it means seer and peace giver

Tara for a girl, after Tara the white/green - a goddess who has helped me immenesly over the years!

I love finding out the meanings of names...this site is really good for that kind of thing though i have to say, they don't have every name in the book...
