If you have read my birth story you will know I was getting a bit upset as the hospital staff made me feel bad for wanting to go home without having a sucessful feed with LO.

I had my mw round today and she suggested i use nipple sheilds as i have short nipples and... it worked

She said he needs to feed every 2 hours. I fed him for about 20 mins. around 2 hours later he seemed to be asking for another feed so i put him to the breast again and he had a suckle for about 3 mins then fell asleep. hes still aleep an hour later. is that ok? my milk hasnt come in yet so its just colostrum im producing at the mo. has he had enough?

sorry to sound panicy

I've read the colostrum is much more filling than the later milk and so they don't feed as much at first, I personally wouldn't worry, I am sure he will let you know when he wants a feed, and if unsure just put him near your nipple and see, he'll smell the milk :) if you keep feeling worried, just phone your HV or NHS direct or your GP, don't ever feel you can't

Sorry to hear about the MW's, they can make you feel so bad I know, but you're home now and they don't matter no more  very best wishes

Newborns feed when they feel like it. Every 2 hours is nonsense, if he needs feeding more or less often just go with the flow. He will be sleeping loads in the first week or so, so don't worry about that. If he falls asleep straight away during a feed, try changing his nappy or blowing on his cheek/ear to see if that wakes him up a bit for some more.

I can't comment on the nipple shields because I never used them.

You're doing fab, just feed on demand and you'll both be great

Every two hours

What a load of rubbish! :x

Feed on demand, wether that be 2 mins or 10 mins, thats how newborns feed, you are doing very well keep it up! What you are giving him now is what he needs, your body makes exactly what he needs and when he wants to feed, feed him.

When your milk comes in you will be both working together to get our supply going, you will often feel you dont have enough but trust your body, it will be fine :cheer:

Nipple shields I dont know about sorry

As far as I can see you are doing just fine

Feed him when he needs it, you'll be fine, glad the feedings going OK
