Ok so my lo is now just over 6 months and after HV instruction down to 3 milk feeds a day. Now my boobs never really feel full though I know the milk is still there as it comes out if I hand express. I just wondered is it because they've adjusted to the 3 feeds a day or am I running out??! I'm hoping not as want to carry on til she is a year. Does anyone know? Thank you x

You won't run out if you are feeding. But your supply adjusts to why you are using. Did u have an 'empty feeling' point at 3months, that's another typical settling point as well, it just means ur body and baby are well matched at moment. Xxx

On my iPhone - so cant see tickers :(

Out of interest Hun why did your HV. Say to cut down on feeds?

Your body will have adjusted to Los needs by now Hun, I hardly ever feel engorged or full now unless I haven't fed in a long period of time xx

Because of her wait gain not being very good and she prefers her milk to food the HV wants me to only feed 3 times so she eats enough solids. For the protein etc. I hate it! I want to bf her for as much as she wants but under strict instruction lol xx

Hmmmm I hope you don't mind me sticking my two pence worth in but my understanding is that milk takes precedence and is our Los main source of nutrition until a year old?? I may be wrong so ladies please correct me.

I personally would be tempted to get a second opinion Hun as the current guidelines state that we should feed on demand unless there are major issues. If her weight gain is slow then I would be tempted to feed on demand.

C was born on the 9th Centile then tracked between the 25th and 50th for a long time and has dipped below the 25th very slightly.... I kept getting pressure to feed C purees and to top up with formula but I stuck to my guns.

I got C weighed today and he has risen to between the 50th and 75th purely on breast milk and BLW at nine months and he isn't a brilliant eater.

I am not boasting but just trying to share my story. I have been made to panic so much by my HVs but clearly C is doing OK....

Xx

No please carry on. That's what I thought but being my first baby I don't have a clue so go with what my HV says. Only problem is my husband goes by what the HV says and would get the raging hump if I feed her more milk, for the simple fact he believes what the HV says and obviously only wants what's best for Hannah. Should I try sneaking it anyway, the fact that I'm Down to 3 feeds if I try more again would my supply go back up? Or is it too late? Thank you :-) xx

Your supply is based on demand Hun so if LO wants more then your body will produce more.

Tell me about it, C is my first baby and if I hadn't of stuck to my guns and demand fed we would have started weaning and formula earlier.

Maybe try to get a second opinion as I could be wrong Hun xx

Ok thank you for your help! Very much appreciated xx

I have to agree that it is awful advice from the HV.

As you know I've had problems with Aaron gaining weight too, but the goal has always been to get more milk into him, and not solids (and that was advice from a paediatric dietician)

In all honesty - baby food/purees etc don't contain enough nutritional content to allow weight gain, so I would be tempted to try feeding more milk?

Have you been referred to a dietician yet? I really think you need more help / professional advice - as a lot of HV don't have a clue.

Out of interest - how bad has the weight gain been? Where is bubs on the centile chart - how much have they fallen?

On the DS chart, Aaron started on 98th centile and stayed there for a while - then he started slowly falling down the chart, till he got to 50th. Then he seems to have settled between 50-75th (believe its about the 9th centile on regular chart). I'm assured that this is very normal for babies to do.

We were seen.by a dietitian and she said to cut down on milk and have more solids to lose weight so your HVs advice doesnt make sense. I have been told my son is overweight by many HVs but he isnt, we saw a paed and he said he was a healthy and happy boy. They just look at the chart and make assumptions. Feed her more milk if she wants to, it is more nutritious

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

Stupid charts and silly HV's! Milk, milk and more milk all the way. Xxx
