Well I was booked in for my GTT test at half 8 this morning. My mum & dad had come down & slept last night so my dad could take Joseph to school & my mum could come to the hospital to keep me company. Was dong Joseph's pack up this morning & my mum said she'd brushed her teeth & couldn't taste if Joseph's juice was strong enough & passed it to me. I had the tiniest sip & realised that I shouldn't have had it cos of it having sugar in. Went to the hospital & told them I'd not had anything to eat since 8pm last night, I then told them about my tiny sip of juice & they said they couldn't do my bloody test in case of false readings!!!! So £1.50 to park for 20 minutes & a trip home (in silence cos I was annoyed with my mum)! Now have to go back Thursday morning at half 8 & so my mum & dad have to stay over Wednesday night too. What a fecking farse!!! All for a tiny sip of bloody orange juice. At least I get to have a brew & some breakfast now eh!

So just a word of warning - DO NOT even have the tiniest amount of anything after midnight cos it will cock your test up & waste your time!!!!! :wall2::wall2::wall2::wall2::wall2::wall2:

Nightmare, god I'm dreading that test lol

awww no!!!!

Are you speaking to your mum yet?

awww noooooooo... how annoying u know for next time x

Thanks girls! Yes I'm speaking to her now, she didn't do it on purpose & they have to do it all over again now too I guess
I am also looking on the bright side of the fact I have a couple more nights of having choccie biccies & sweets (just in case my test comes back positive)!
My mum was cross with herself to be honest & we had a rant at each other when we got home (pregnancy hormones means I just can't hold back at the moment), but we're all good now x

Lol here's to looking on the brightside :)

Awww thats shit! When do you get tested for that, does everyone get it? xxx

Oh no! What a pain in the backside. I've got a test in May, my midwife said I can't even have chewing gum for 12 hours beforehand. My test is at 9am so I'll just get an early night that night so I'm not tempted to nibble :)

Hi Shauna. Not everyone has it. With me it's linked to 3 things - age, BMI & having a big baby previously. I didn't have it when I was pregnant first time around, but am more "at risk" this time. But like I've said I'm now looking onnthe bright side & have had my bowl of Ricicles (bowl of sugar)! & a coffee with 1 sugar in it!
Tomorrow is supermarket shop & I am buying some cake for after tea tomorrow night. Making the most of not knowing yet

I did the same thing Sunny - I'd had a sip of black tea thinking it was ok without milk or sugar but they sent me home and I had to rebook!! xx

Luckily even though they're fully booked this week, they've fitted me in for Thursday morning!
It's just frustrating that I sorted childcare & everything out & have to do it all over again. Could've bloody killed my mum this morning! I even told her I didn't want her to come with me Thursday!! But she has insisted due to me keeping blacking out that she is with me for company & safety. I'm over it now I think - but Grrrrrrr!

OMG! Ive got mine on the 1st as Ive got a family history of type 2 diabetes so Im high risk.
Can u have water? Or antacids? I cant sleep without them! & is it 12 hrs before or from midnight? Confuzzled now :( x

Hey at least she told you before you'd guzzled the minging orange stuff! Best to load up on cakes and choccy now just in case I reckon :) I am!

Shauna - when midwife takes your bloods they test for glucose and if it's high they send you for this test so they keep an eye out.

Hmm they told me black tea and coffee were ok, inconsistencies!

Vicxzy - you def allowed water but probably not antacids, maybe check if you really need to take them (or just take a bit more when you're still "allowed" to last you)

My booklet said black tea, coffee or water are fine. Antacids are a no go I'm afraid, yes I crippled myself for nothing last night - Grrrrrrrrrrr! There do seem to be inconsistencies, but the nurse said coffee, tea & water without milk or sugar have nothing in them to affect the test. Gaviscon, chewing gum & juices (even the supposedly sugar free varieties) have a natural amount of glucose/sugars in them & even though I'd had the tiniest amount, they wouldn't test me. She said if it came back positive it could be a wrong diagnosis based on the small amount of juice I'd had.
12pm midnight is the cut off time, so if you need that drink with milk or sugar or need to take antacids, that's the latest you can do it I'm afraid x

I think each hospital must have different rules - my cut off time is 10pm and the only thing you can have is water xx

That's crazy! You'd think it would be the same all over UK as surely if it'll affect one persons test in one area of the country, it'd be the same somewhere else. Bloody stupid eh??!!

Yeah I was told of midwifes in settle health centre that black tea and coffee and water are ok and not to drink after 10 pm and I only had to sit for 2 hours where at the hospital I go to for scans and that sed nothing to drink except water and cut off time is 12 and that's a 3 hour test too. Also there all changing from that horible glucose stuff to lucazade which taste better and cost nhs less too
