My brother is 13 and when he was a baby they said he had a heart mumur but it went. He went to the hospital last night for different reasons and they found a heart mumur...so its came back. Got me worried at first but i have read up and it says its not dangerous? I know alot of newborns are born with them and its nothing to worry about but i didn't think they came back...anyone know anything about them? He has to go for an "echo" xxx

most of them are harmless its only when they are caused by something like heart valve problems that it can become troublesome but as he is only young it is most likely a harmless 1, they can however stop them from joining the military

 I don't know much about heart murmurs tbh. I'd heard of them but never knew that they could go away and come back. I'm sure your wee baba will be fine huni, but I understand your worry, especially as its someone closely related its happened to. I never thought of them as being dangerous either. x

Hopefully its nothing, he won't be joining the Military anyways...he wouldn't be able to stay away from home lol. Will see after hes had these tests xxx

Yeah, i know its probably nothing to worry about but when they told me i thought the worst...scared me a bit. I worry over nothing lol. xxx

I think we all worry about things we hear when we're pregnant huni  Its the only time that we can get away with irrational thinking :) x

About a year ago I was at the doctors and he was listening to my chest and jus kind of offhand said 'has anyone ever told you you have a heart murmur'! WTF! No! Apparently it's nothing to worry about usually and loads of people have them. I usually do loads of sport and have managed a pregnancy no worries so it's obviously fine.

It's usually just a tiny hole between the left and right sides of the heart and the murmur is the blood rushing through it. Even in a really serious case it's really easy to fix cos they can just patch it up through a tiny hole in your groin (they use a tiny tube which goes up through your veins). it's really low risk, I don't even think they give you a general anesthetic. Most, like mine, don't need fixing though.

I hope that puts your mind at ease. Also I don't think they are hereditary so there is no reason to worry about your LO.
