What could this be??
Relux??
She's 3 weeks Thursday!
It's only her night feeds for the last 3/4 nights now! It's so scary to watch it come out of her nose and her choke! She goes all stiff and looks petrified! I am too! Makes me burst into tears! I know it's just milk n it's normal for babies to be sick which she has done but this is different and is so horrible! Grace has breast & formula but mainly formula as Shes a big hungey baby and my Milk doesnt satisfy her. Its her 11-12 feed that this happens & it just did.. Any advice or experiences of this would be great! Thanks x

It defo sounds like reflux. I'd go to the doc's they can prescibe something that will help. I thought my baby wasn't satisfied with bottles too but it was the reflux in general making him distressed.

Try not to feed LO big feeds, use half as much twice as often, feed upright, keep upright for 30-40 mins after feed. Elevate the cot by 30 degrees & try not to have LO lie flat on her back. Trying to think of anything else...

What is it they give you for reflux?? She also gets hiccups quite a bit..they seem to last a while too. Is that related?? X

Yes hiccups is a symptom of reflux, along with other things like - excessive drooling, fussy at feed times, arching of back and/or neck, inconsolable crying, disturbed sleep.

They give lots of things for reflux, they normally start on gaviscon, my LO has severe reflux & doc said you start at the most simple medicine & work way up til one suits. My LO is on strong meds & a prescribed formula & it seems to be working, for alot of ppl gaviscon is enough to stop it.

Good luck

Yes hiccups is a reflux symptom.

Gaviscon is normally the first medicine prescribed, but there are others if it doesn't work.

Just a little warning though be prepared to fight your doctor, many are reluctant to diagnose reflux and even more refuse to do it till after 4 weeks. Don't let them fob you off with colic.

Oh just to add you say you're topping her up because she's not satisfied? Many babies with reflux overeat because the milk eases the pain a bit like an adult having milk to calm heartburn. Could this be the case with your LO?.

I hope you get things sorted soon hun big hugs, I know how awful it is to see them like that.

Sorry

:x

I just cant seem to shut up about reflux recently....just want ppl to be aware, we struggled for 4 months thinking it was colic...poor LO.

Totally get what you mean. The first doctor fobbed me off at 3 weeks, basically told me to deal with it. At about 7 weeks a HV came to observe Chloe's feeding because she hadn't put any weight on. She took one look and said she's got reflux. The Dr completely agreed and prescribed the gaviscon. Chloes like a whole different person now. Downside is because it took so long to diagnose she started refusing the breast :(

Shes occasionally fussy with feeding but only cause she seems to hungry she can't get it in quick enough, but none of the other symptoms. She sleeps 5-6 hours at night and day time I feed her 3-4 hours. Think I'll try 4-5 in day time Incase she's getting too much so that's why she's chucking up only at night?
I think I don't have enough breast milk, I pumped both breasts and only got 50ml and that's in total of both. She's having 120ml of formula and that's after breast!!! I've started to do breast nights n mornings so formula is mostly what she has cause I can't ever satisfy her:/
Thanks for replies, hv is popping over in a bit x

Health visitors been..
She thinks she's just being over fed so got to cut down her last feed. Also getting infacol to help her wind. Hopefully this helps. Hv said feed 4 hourly not 3-4 but we need to do 41/2-5 to be able to cut the last feed out. 5 hours is ok to let baby go in day isn't it? She goes that sometimes a bit longer in night x

Omg I think Tyler might have reflux. He doesn't throw up much tho!

Kayden has silent reflux - it doesn't mean they dont cry, it just means theres no puke, its acid that comes up (but you dont see that either)

I was told to cut down bottles, Kayden was 4 months old & drinking 8 oz every 2 hours, & still crying for more!! Doc said he's been comfort drinking coz of reflux (feels like extreme heartburn to them) so the drinking calms the pain.

My LO needs fed every 2 hours during the day coz im not allowed to give him big bottles so its a nightmare get like no time to myself the whole day.
