Hi all,

We're going to start trying in March, at the moment I'm just taking folic acid - however I have one pack of the seven sea's trying to conceive tablets that I am thinking about starting to take in March too - once I've used them I will move back onto the folic acid as I have loads of it in.

My husband has been thinking of taking some for himself too, are they're any that your other halves are on, should he start taking them before we start trying?

What if anything do you take yourselves as well?

Hi donna, i just took folic acid and vit D. My DH didnt take anything but i know there are lots of vitamins gor men who are ttc....theyre usually 3 for 2 in boots. Hope your journey ttc is a short one x

I'm on vit D too (although not for TTC I have a deficiency)

Thank you - fingers crossed it won't take us too long, we're very excited about starting anyway and would be starting earlier if we didn't have a cruise booked in August (March is literally the earliest we could fall pregnant and still be allowed to sail.) It gives us time to prepare anyway. Just feels odd how excited we are and how we keep talking about a baby and then use condoms everytime we have sex haha...

Just my thoughts as a disheartened long termer. We've tried various supplements and clearly nothing has worked so this will be my new approach.

For me: folic acid and vitamin D as these are the only things that are actually recommended. I will be continuing with the zinc only because I'd be putting it in the bin otherwise and that seems wasteful.

For him: a general multivitamin as he's had previous motility issues and feels he'd like to continue taking something. I'm not pushing it.

We have stopped the CoQ10 and will be stopping omega 3 when the tub is finished. I tried and ditched evening primrose oil. He was taking the zinc too but has now stopped. We were taking his and hers conception vitamins, Pregnacare initially and then swapped to Tesco's own. We're now of the view that since we've improved our diet significantly, there's no point in wasting money on them. If you feel you want to take a conception vitamin, definitely look at own brands as they're a lot cheaper and the ingredients are roughly the same.

Hope that's helpful and good luck with your journey!!

^^Thank you that is very helpful, I was thinking along the same lines as you to be honest and only thinking of taking the seven sea's because I have a box in from a few years ago when we were going to start trying (before circumstances changed and we ended up putting it off)

We also have very healthy diets (I'm hoping to carry this on through my pregnancy if I am lucky enough to get pregnant too, as with my son I gained loads of weight from just eating rubbish. My view this time is if I eat healthier it must be better for the baby and I hopefully won't gain as much weight this time around - win win)

Good luck on the rest of your journey - I hope you don't have to wait too much longer for you BFP

I think the reality is they will market anything as conception or fertility and of course we'll all rush out, buy it and convince ourselves it helped. I've had a bit of a meltdown this week and we've both agreed that we're very happy to strip things back. If it's not doing anything why bother? If OH hadn't ever had any sperm issues, I don't think he'd take anything. I think he's kinda holding on to the idea that the vitamins might have helped improve things so if he wants to take a general multivitamin then that's fine. Just don't see the point in paying extra for conception ones.

Hope you can stick with the healthy eating. We actually enjoy the new meals so it's definitely something we will stick with. Obviously there's still room for treats every now and then!!

I loaded my OH up on vitiman C this month and I got the BFP

It takes a few months for vitamin stores to build up so if you are going to start TTC in March I would start taking stuff now.

I am on my folic acid and my vit d now :)

Husband is going to do his own thing when he wants.

We're really enjoying the healthy eating too - have some gorgeous meals and feel so much better for it and we do have our treats in there too :) I'd like to lose some weight before we conceive (I'd like to lose a stone but obviously once we conceive I won't be trying to lose weight anymore but just have a healthy pregnancy)
