multiple wives for muslim men will mean multiple benefits

well all it means is that all the adults are entitled to claim benefits  which they can do whether they're Muslim or not - any 3 adults living in the same house can claim benefits if they require them - I don't really see what difference it makes if they're living as 2 wives and a husband or (as was featured recently on tv) one wife and 2 husbands in a non muslim marriage.

Is this any different than a guy who has 2 gfriends both receiving benefits? If they don't all live together does that make it ok?

Shouldn't the question really be why do these adults need income support?

thats just crap, it illegal in this country so why should they get extra benefits and extra housing benefits for the extra adults in the house.

yep outrageous..won't comment further as i expect it will be taken the wrong way

Well it is illegal to marry 2 people in this country, but as the article states, some of these marriages are not legal marriages in the definition we have of a legal marriage - but a Muslim law marriage not recognised here so they break none of our laws - so again it is just 3 people living together - like the couples we have in this country that live in relationships with another person whether it is 2 men and a woman or vice versa. So should we take their benefits too?

What is the objection? Muslim people recieving benefits or people who live in relationships with more than one partner recieving benefits? Both seem a little extreme for deciding whether someone should recieve benefits - shouldn't it just be about need? And again - I do object to 3 adults receiving benefits if they could be working instead

Libs - Your post has confused me a little, you say that this is no different to 3 people living in the same household together all recieving benefits but the article says that it is different because they recieve extra benefits than normal. I don't know much about benefits TBH as i've been lucky enough never to have claimed them before (obviously get child tax credits etc now)

Basically before I decide what my view is.. if I were to live with my OH and another bloke as of now would I get extra money by claiming couple allowance for each bloke I was with, cos basically thats what the paper is stating isn't it? or have i got it all wrong

All confuses me a little.

I agree with a couple of the others in that if i say what i am thinking in full then chances are it will be taken the wrong way, but what what i will say is they should only be allowed to claim the same as any other COUPLE not Threesome.

i couldnt possibly comment as i dont really understand it!

i know very little about benefits, politics, polygamy or islam so i dont really kno what it means

"Where there is a valid polygamous marriage the claimant and one spouse will be paid the couple rate ... The amount payable for each additional spouse is presently £33.65."

As usual I'm agreeing with budge but I wont expand on that, not on a public forum.

i saw it on the news last night that they wanted to pick a section of the UK and make new laws for it because they didnt like the laws in the UK at the moment.... :x well im going to another country and making my own laws so i can do what ever i want, will they let me?... NO! is it just me or does every one just walk all over this country? <-- no pun intended!

The additional payment for each "spouse" not UK legally married is only what (or less) that woman would get in benefits anyway, it is just added to the husbands money instead of going directly to her.....I think.

I am usually the first to stand up for people being able to live their lives as they choose, but I'm totally against changing UK law to allow Muslims to have their own laws. It scares the hell out of me to be honest.

I saw a discussion about this lastnight on channel 4 news, and what they seem to want to do is have t sets of laws in the UK that any individual (Muslim or not) can chose to follow the one they prefer. It screams of complete chaos.

Many Muslim laws are very attractive...such as the law against interest on money....and I can see a lot of non-Muslims turning to Muslim laws instead of UK laws, and eventually we become a Muslim ruled country. That is despicable and while I have nothing what-so-ever against the Muslim communities here in the UK, I will not stay in this country if that happens!

Something smells a bit off about this whole thing, something odd, why on earth would any government even consider this, unless its propaganda designed to scare the British public and turn us even more against Muslims?

Maybe its a not so clever but effective way of knowing who is living in this country for terrorism reasons and benefit fraud purposes?

I think its sad that so many respondents to this thread feel that they can't express their opinion in full for fear of it being taken 'the wrong way'. Whatever happened to intelligent debate?

I think its because although we aren't racists this topic fuels feelings that to some might be considered racist. Thats why I haven't really commented much other than to say the reason I think this has happened. Obviously I can't and won't speak for everyone :)

Well ok.

I wouldn't walk into a country and demand this that and the other. If I didn't like the rules there, I would either put up with them because now I have a better life, or wouldn't move there in the first place.

I'm all up for a multicultural society but not one that takes the piss, like "Happy Christmas" being banned in several places for fear of offending. Or there was a whole thing about pig ornaments being banned on windowsills, the book "three little pigs" being renamed "three little puppies" - all for fear of offending muslims.

That's gone a bit off the subject, but I know if I wanted to live in a country where a different religion was dominant, I wouldn't be asking for all sorts of stuff and then claiming "discrimination against the minority" if I didn't get it. I'd respect that people were considerate of me in the first place.

I haven't noticed any other religion where things are bent over backwards for them.. Sikhs, Jews, Hindus, or any other.. they seem to get on with things, but Muslims always manage to make it to the newspapers because something hasn't gone their way.

Remembering of course that it is muslims who have moved here, been in our society, and then caused terror attacks on the very country they chose to live in??!!

This is why I don't voice m opinion because I know there are at least a couple of muslim girls on here. It's nothing against them it really isn't, every religion has a right to it's beliefs. It's the way society is, and the way that religions impact others that I have a problem with.

If anyone wants me to delete this then I will. But hey, free speech and all that eh Dinski :D

No i'll back you up Shell.. I think your completly right
