We have most of our nursery furniture on order now and hoped to have sorted out most of the big spends as a friend was going to lend us her moses basket until we felt comfortable in putting baby in her cot. HOWEVER, friend has moved house this weekend and chucked the moses basket out. I didn't really want to have to buy one as I have heard from so many people that they aren't very practical and baby will grow out of it very quickly. What did you use when your little one's were first born? We favour the moses basket idea as we can move it from upstairs to downstairs etc. Are they worth investing in?

You could try ebay for one a bit cheaper, since they dont last long a second hand one should still be in good condition.

I think theyre good to help baby feel secure for those first few months, going straight to a cot might be too open for them.

yeah they are realy handy due 2 bein able 2 move them about 4m room 2 room! u can pick them up reasonably cheap 2, or like arcanegirl says a 2nd hand 1 shud b fine, is always advisable 2 get a new matress 4 it tho, u may even snap 1 up in a 2nd hand shop or carboot sale, cud u ask family members 2 look out 4 u 2 then ull def get 1 at gd price :D

I had a swinging crib in our room and a moses basket downstairs. Definately worth having, I really miss mine now Ella is grown out of it as it was ideal for downstairs naps

We used our moses basket until Jacob was 9 weeks old (Jacob is a big baby!!!) when he grew out of it. It was really handy as we used it upstairs and downstairs. I would say to get one!

Xxx

Yeah i'd say they are great! Might only last 2 or 3 months but i just bought one from the carboot sale and bought a new mattress.

I moved Lydia out of her moses basket and into her cot at 4 months.
(We would have moved her a little earlier, as by 4 months she barely fit in it anymore, but we wanted to be sure she would take to the cot).

Initially we tried her in the cot for a couple of days and she HATED it, so she slept in her baby car seat in our bedroom for a day or two and then we bought the moses basket and she DEFINITELY preferred it.

I guess it all depends on the baby, but we really needed one for Lydia as she hated the cot, and her car seat was curved so not good for her spine.

Rubie was in hers until she was 5 months old. To me it was a great buy and well worth it. :D

I've never used one, I had a swinging wooden crib in the bedroom and the pram part of the pushchair downstairs, it has handles so was like a carrycot too.
