hey everyone sorry to post ni here again its just im starting to feel like i dont know what im doing anymore.... As you may know i posted sayign joshuas appetite appeared to have shot through the roof, and so was consdiering baby rice adn wwnated advice. spoke to HV and she said just put each of his feeds up by an oz and see how we get on. so we did and he was fine. Yesterday, we tried him on cows milk based formula (cow and gate) as the HV said we had to test his allergy to see if it was a 3 month thing as his digestive system might have matured better to take it. However, we have noticed maybe over 2/3 days and in particular today, hes now going every 5 hours or so but on maybe 4 fl ozs if we're lucky.... he will feed but then part way through start squirming and squirming pushing the bottle out of his mouth, arching back so that he loses the bottle etc and wont take it. we have to 'force' him to get 4fl oz. he seems happy in himself, is wetting and dirtying his nappies as we would expect, will not stop dribbling like crazy, it gets everywhere.....

does anyone have any advice cos im strarting t odoubt myself........

thanks in advance Sophie xxx

Hi
I've never posted on here before...always just lingered! But felt I should respond to your post as you are one of the few people from which i can see who is going through something similar to me. My little boy is 11 weeks tomorrow and for the first week and a bit we were in and out of hospital, it emerges that they think he's allergic to milk protien and has been put on pregestimil to help with it. He was also on a lot of medicines for reflux as well but he's now only on infant gaviscon.
Im surprised that you hv has advised you to 'check' we've been told to wait until we get a dietician appointment sometime around the 4 month age when we may start to consider weaning.
As for your little one how's he tolerating the cow and gate? How's his nappies? Our sign was blood and mucus! As for the arching and pushing away, Henry did this for a while until we adjusted his reflux medicine then he seemed much better and now seems to have grown out of that issue a bit, does yours have any meds for reflux, may not be the mpa but that??

Haven't been much help have i?! :wall2:

hey thanks for relplying! yeah we tried the cows milk sunday it was hell. he was fine at first and then all hell let loose. it was constant screaming, vomiting etc. thats what happened when thye said he had it. he would feed and 15 minutes later he would start screaming and screaming. It was just a pure pain scream as well it was horrendous listening to it. then he would start to cry cos he would be hungry and the whole thing started again, they thought initially it was a lactose intolerance so prescribed colief but that made hardly any difference and so put him on nutramigen 1 which helped near enough right awway and within 48 hours he was fine again. he went to hospital at 4 weeks as he stopped breathing and when we were in there i asked about mpa and they said no definitely not so gave him gaviscon which didnt really help. hes back on the gaviscon now as it thickens the milk hes on as there is no hungrier baby stuff just from birth then from 6 months +.. His dirty nappies were liquid. He would fill them and it would be down his legs in his hair , we would pick him to change and it wuoold be all over us and so changing one of those nappies was a two man job. it was basically diaarhoea, vomiting and severe pain for him. his diet has just been very random of late he seems to eat loads then comparitively speaking nothing....im really irritated they made us try it out. my HV was adament it was because he had an immature digestive system. his paediatrician said given the family history of it it would probably start to 'disappear' at about 1.5 years old.....im gonna take him to the doctors and get them to test his blood properly i think......

Thanks for replying
xx

We were told that there was no blood test and that it was trial and error :( Henry seems to have been ok since being on the pregestimil (just the same as nutramiegin, I believe!) but his nappies are still disgusting (very dark green and very runny) but nothing like you describe, sounds like fun!!
After your experience I think we'll wait as long as we can until trying normal formula-at least we're getting this horrible stuff on prescription :)
Will be interesting to track how well they both do and if they really are allergic to mp-I'm not sure how we go about the weaning stage, should be interesting!

ah ok fair enough! we were told it was trial and error i just presumed that when you got tested for allergies it could come up. yeah i will not be testing it soon. twas horrible to think we had inflicted it on him. how old is you LO??how long did it take you to get the milk changed?? im so glad iv found someone else whose child has mpa!! when he got taken to hosp i asked if it could have been an allergy as opposed to reflux and they said definitely not and so we fed him and lefft with a screaming child.........pffft show them! xxxxxxxxxx

He's 11 weeks today. Yours?
It all started for us when we took him home after about 4 days old, he started to produce these really strange poos and then projectile vomited all over dh from about a meter, 'twas very impressive, however it had a tinge of green to it so we had to go back to hospital as they thought it was a blockage. Got rushed to Bristol Childrens hospital in an ambulance to have an X-ray, luckily all clear. So they put him on this milk and medicans for reflux and he's been ok ever since, he's come off the medicines, he's only on gavison now.
Was horrible to watch, I've already lost a lo at full term 2 years ago (in fact it would have been her birthday today) and at the time it felt like it was happening all again with Henry, he was on antibiotics and being tube fed as he wouldn't accept the new milk (can't really blame him it smells disgusting!)
But he's doing really well now and steadily putting on wait :)
Just hoping he grows out of it, there's no allergies in our family history so it's all abit new for us

josh was 3 months yesterday. im sorry to hear about what yuo must have gone through a couple of years ago. must have been soul destroying! at least henry's ok now and doing well. dont blame you about the milk. Josh's stinks as well, its horrible! Our HV is planning on getting us weaning him from abuot 17 weeks so i can let you know how that goes haha!! my mum said my little brother used to projectile vomit like your lo!! apparently they can be susceptible to asthma and eczema if they have a cma. joshua has eczsma as well, but it appears to be clearing up. i read somewhere it can be a symptom of cma. i felt really frustrated as we kept telling people that he cried all day and never ever settled and everyone, hv included, kept telling us that he was a baby and thats what baby's do. They cry. it was only when she saw him finish a feed and kick up a fuss that she realised it wasnt right. In fact she actually turned around and told us we didnt have a normal baby. but apparently thats what stopped him breathing in the first place....stupid bloody hospital. My borther, grew out of his. when it came to weaning they would use his milk for milk baed stuff and then eventually he went on to soya milk and goats milk and now hes fine with cows milk. so its reassuring. it gets quite worrying though if it does end up being when they are 2/3 that it starts to go away especially when it comes to chocolate and ice cream and things. they just cant have any.....makes kids parties difficult........xxxxxxxxx

Sounds like you've got it sorted now thought! As for the amount of milk Henry takes it can change alot! We keep a record as we got into the habit when he was in hospital but he is only really taking between 4-5oz every 3 hours but this can vary sometimes he only takes 2 and then clams his mouth shut lol and other times he can be taking a full 5 and want more 2 hours later. He seems I be going longer at night though taking his last feed at 7, dreamfeed at 11 and then waking anytime between 3:30 and 6, we always wake him at 7:30 if he hasn't woken already :)
Keep us posted with the weaning!

Sorry forgot to say....your lo has probably got a bit of a sore belly after having the cm, may take a couple of days for it to settle and then I'm sure he'll be back to normal and feeding like made to make up!!
Chin up...your doing great x

How's J doing with his feeds, any better??
H had a terrible day yesterday with feeds not taking much, and looks like he's planning on doing the same again today, 3oz every 3 hours, refuses to take more in one go....don't think I'm ever going to see the day when he drains a 6 or 7 oz bottle.

Oh no! His feeds are tmepermental. Hjes still been taking maybe 4fl oz but vomiting half of it back up. We think it might be he has a poorly tummy from our tests the other dayu so if its no better today well spk to HV! Thanks for asking! Henry ok? J was only on what henry is on at 11 wks x

I'm sure he's just irritated his belly, and will be back to normal soon!
Henrys perked up, just downed 5oz and is now having a kick around in his mat! Just wish he would drop his sill 4am feed, he obviously doesn't need it as he then doesn't eat hardly anything at 7 but nothing else will get him back to sleep, I know he can go till 6 because he's done it before, I'm Knackered

i know what you mean. josh ahs started waking up at 4 ish and again i know he can make till 6 as that is what he's 'normally' doing.... very irritating must say :(

Hows Josh doing? Belly settled down yet?

yeah he seems to have thanks for asking. his eating is a little bit funny still but hes putting weight on and is happy and spritely in himself so im not gonna complain!! hows your LO? i read your post was gonna reply but figured i couldnt really say anything helpful....x

Yeah can't complain, I think I was jumping the gun with my post as the last 2 nights he's gone from 7-7 with a very small dream feed! :) he's nearly mastered the art of sucking his fingers so I think this has helped to re settle him in the night.
As for his weight he only put on 3oz this week compared to his mamoth Xmas binge of 13oz the week before but he seems happy and hasn't been really sick so alls good.
Just need to chase up pediatrician appoint for 4 months as I haven't heard anything gggrr x

ahhh. how did you get him to sleep that long??? josh still struggles sometimes. hell go from 11 till 6.45.......not sure if there are any techniques we can do to help him. the other night, he decided to try and kill himself silly child.....i put a cloth underneath his heaad in case he was sick and then next thing i know hes screaming his head off. turns out he had managed to pull ot from under him partly, wrap it round his face adn then 'tuck it in' on the other side......

OMG! you have just made me run upstairs and remove henry's cloth as I waddling the same....not any more!
I haven't any tips for sleeping, I guess they just do it when they're ready!
