alice has really been suffering for the last few days.. she had her mmr jab on the 28th may, and her temp as been hitting just over 28 (but her arms and legs stay cold  ). she wasn't eating, but seems to have made up for that today.

this morning she has woken up with a rash all over (apart from her face). I assuming its because of the jabs... but at what point do i worry. Its getting to the point with her where i feel like i should be doing something, but i don't want to just be turned away being told its her jabs.

she is sooooo grumpy, me and oh can't do a thing with her! nothing is good enough, not even cuddles from mummy at the moment  she has worn herself out now - zonked out in her bed.

I keep giving her calpol, and if she is warm, the odd cold bath to cool her down.

how long should i expect it to last for? apart from calpol and keeping her cool, is there anything else i can try? the rash doesnt seem to be itchy.

Does the rash disappear under a glass?
If not, take her to A&E straight away. I'm sure you've done the glass test already though.

You can alternate between Calpol and Nurofen to get the temp down. I am giving Tom 10mls Calpol every six hours and 5mls Nurofen every 8 hours. Lukewarm baths (not cold) and strip her down to nothing or just a nappy. You could also give her ice cream, let her play with some cold water etc which will help get the temp down too.

If the rash goes under pressure then I'd see how she is in the morning and if she's no better take her to your doctor. Obviously if the rash doesn't go, get to hospital asap.

Poor little Alice. Hope she is better soon.
Lxx

I checked the rash with a glass this morning, and it disappears.

I didn't realise you could use Calpol and Nurofen at the same time! will send OH out to find a chemist that is open and has some Nurofen :)

Ice cream is a good idea. She currently has a beaker of juice, with an ice cube in it.

we took her out for a drive to see if some fresh air would help - only just got back, and she is eating bread and butter at the moment.

thanks for the reply

The nurse who did Austin's jabs warned me that the measles bit can cause a reaction up to 2 weeks after the jabs which can include a temperature and a rash, so the likelyhood is it's that. If she's not any better tomorrow, and certainly by Tuesday I'd take her in to the doctor though because it may be something else.

Hope she's better soon

thats what i recon it is, but if we have another day like the last 3, i feel like its got to the point where i want someone to confirm (do you know what i mean).

what do measles rashes look like? Alice has got about 30 spots scattered all over, not in patches

Poor Alice :(

This sounds exactly like Evie after her MMR.
10 days after the jab she went off her food and had a really high temp. This lasted a couple of days and then the temp started to go down but she got a rash all over her front and back. The spots were really red, exactly like I'd expect measles to be like.
She was pretty grouchy for 4-5days and off her food for most of this time :(

cheers for the reply. its reasuring to know that others have been through the same thing.

im going to see how she goes tonight and tomorrow. if she still isn't right i will take her up to her docs.

thank you all

Aaron was the same hun. It lasted about a week I think and then disappeared. It got worse when he was warm like after a bath the rash would look horrible. It's just a reaction to the measles part of the mmr. If youre worried though I would get her checked out

this morning i felt awful for leaving her! had to keep reminding myself all day that there is nothing different i could do that my mum wouldn't have already done.

But, she seems a bit happier now - still as grumpy as anything, but is back to chasing the cat again.

if it is the measles part, is it contagious (sp)?
