Hi everyone. Im getting married 2 days before christmas next year! So excited. We wont be having a honeymoon as I cant leave our daughter to go off. Plus with Christmas straight after its so expensive.

We were thinking of doing something just the 2 of us either between christmas and new year or go away for new year. Has anyone any suggestions. We live in south west Scotland so something not too far. Anyone any recommendations of nice hotels or places to go, maybe the lakes or Edinburgh? Not sure really. Just something cozy and just for 2 nights. Max 3. Any suggestions welcome.

Ive a whole year to plan it but as the wedding is already sorted I need something else to do. Thanks in advance xx

Hi Hun,

We love the lakes, Ambleside is lovely and Keswick. Probably a little quieter than somewhere like Windermere or Penrith (which is a student town) We used to like a hotel in Ambleside called the Lake House, but haven't been in a few years so maybe check trip advisor for up to date reviews... Ooh you should visit The Apple Pie cafe and bakery in Ambleside too...yummy cakes!

If you were thinking out new year and a bit of excitement it'll be the hogmany in Edinburgh so there would be plenty to see and do but I think hotels etc would be very busy and prices probably increase as people compete for rooms.... Depends if you like the city atmosphere?

What about a little cottage break somewhere? Although I think most want a 3 night booking usually. Xx

Have you checked on Groupon or Wowcher as they do fantastic mini break offers on there, My hubby and I just got back from a 2 night spa break with a massage each, breakfast both mornings and dinner one night there was even wine and fudge in our room. It cost £99! they do them for all over the country so am sure you will find something fab there :D x

Thank you for showing me this place! Gorgeous. Some good ideas.

Has anyone been to euro Disney? I had a fleeting notion, although worry it won't live up to Florida. Xxx

We did a mini break to Edinburgh for our honeymoon. It was a suprise, I didn't know where we were going till we got to the airport :-)

What about the 241 mini cruises to Amsterdam? You can extend the stay so you spend a night in the city & 2 on the ferry. The ones I've seen go from Hull but I'm fairly certain they go from up further up north too xx

How about coming to fife? You can stay at mine, bunk in with Harry bump! ;) xxx

Ooh I second what Torino said... We stayed in ullswater in the summer and drove past this cute little place every day. Would be fab in the winter

Ullswater was great as only around 15 mins from the M6 so easy to get to, and it feels like you're a million miles away xx
