So, I went to the doctor today about my son's eczema and the doctor said that one possibility is that he's allergic to cow's milk. As I'm still breast feeding she's suggested I cut dairy products out of my diet for a while to see if his eczema improves. I am obviously going to do this, but ohmygod, NO CHEESE :(

I'm a bit annoyed they didn't suggest this earlier to be honest (although then I wouldn't have been able to eat my Christmas chocolate... ), because he's almost six months now and it's not the first time I've taken him to them about it. Now that I've read up about it (admittedly only on Wikipedia but hey, it's a start) he's had other things which could be symptoms as well and they've never said anything about it until now. Just feel a bit annoyed that if it is due to this then he's been suffering unnecessarily for months :wall2: Feel crap that it might be me making him ill :(

I just wondered if anybody else here is experiencing this (it seems to be more common than I'd imagined) and whether it's made any difference so far? The doctor said that if it is that then hopefully he'll grow out of it by the time he's a year old. She also said that I ought to keep a food diary and only introduce one thing at a time when I start weaning him next month, because if it is that then he might be at higher risk of being allergic to other things.

C battles with a CMP allergy too but i have not had to cut out all dairy. I can eat cheese, yoghurts etc but I cant drink cows milk he has a massive eczma flare up if I do. The GP discourse it but I am confident this is what is going on.

The GP didn't warn me about a possibility of an allergy to other things when weaning so thank you.... It's a bit of a minefield.... Xx

We've had this. I am a vegan so I don't even have any dairy in my diet but it's one of several reasons that saw me expressing and bottle feeding my milk with colief added. We have managed to drop it down now to half dose and we are keeping everything crossed that he grows out of it as some do.

Hopefully cutting out dairy will work for you.

my son has it and i had to cut out all dairy. i feel for you, its hard but doable. Try it and see if it helps.
And read the labels as lots of things have some sort of milk in it

Tapatalking so cant see signatures

Thanks everyone :)

I am going to give it a go, have decided that it'd probably do me some good to break my cheese addiction anyway  Did get a bit upset last night when I realised it meant no ice cream though  Going to take it as a challenge to try some new things as I'm normally quite fussy and add cheese to everything, and I wanted to stop doing this anyway as I don't want him to grow up fussy like me :)

Had Marmite on toast with scrambled eggs (with no milk and with dairy free margarine) and a packet of Kettle Chips for lunch today, and going to have roast vegetables and chicken for dinner :)

Most supermarkets have freefrom section, head straight there ( you can get dairy free ice cream too)

have no experiences of bfing bt ds 1 had a cows milk protein allergy. you do have to be careful with other allergies but they advise you only introduce one new thinf at a time anyway when weaning.

free form section is amazeballs but make sure you check all foods. we realised heinz ketchup (sure it was tha
t) had cows milk in

ds1 grew out of it and now eats anything. his eczema only comes out occasionally but iys controllable and he gets flare ups of asthma buy only when he has a cold anyway iyswim. and hes 2 now!! xx

xx

How do you know if eczema is CMP related? Harry has baby eczema but not sure if it's allergy related? he's mostly BF but DH gives one FF at night. I don't eat dairy anyway... xxx

Our doctor suggested it because his eczema isn't getting any better despite treating it, and she said normally you'd expect to see some improvement.

Also (and I didn't know this before I started reading about it all on Thursday), technically your breast milk is dairy... all milk (and products made from the milk) from mammals is dairy :eh:

All breast milk contains lactose (the foremilk ESP) but it doesn't have to contain CMP so if your LO has a lactose intolerance it can cause issues but if it is a CMP allergy then that simply needs to be irradiated from your diet.

I also don't use the products prescribed by my GP to mange C's eczema as they just don't work. Xx
