Just sent hubby out for some medised and they told him that the guidelines have changed 2 months ago and they're not allowed to sell it if it is for a child under two years. It used to be from 3 months onwards!!!

What do I give him when calpol/nurofen just doesn't cut it?!

I dont think you are missing anything with the medised. I found it made the kids violent and found some aspect of a 'come down' with it. If Calpol and Nuerofen arent doing it then I doubt it would make much difference. Ive found mainly the Nurofen to be good. Especially for the colds and ear related things. The pharmacist recommended it.

I was giving him medised that I had bought a while back when he was smaller and it did work

I dont think there was any need to roll the eyes. I was only trying to help.

I was looking at it today in Boots funnily enough and it says 2 years+ on the bottle now. Just had a wee read around and apparently all cough medicines for the under 2s were banned as people had accidentally given their kids an overdose - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/artic ... elves.html

We were at the docs today for Becky's cough (been 2 weeks now since it started) and she said just to keep going with the calpol or nurofen if her temperature goes up as it's definitely not a chest infection. So basically they just have to ride it out :(

personally if neither calpol or nurofen weren't doing anything I would be seeking medical advice.

Apparently they changed the guidelines because parents in America were overdosing their children on it in order to get some sleep.

I still give it to Tom if he is very bunged up as I find it does help his nose and help him to sleep. I've never stopped buying it...i just tell the pharmacist that Tom is 2.

I took him to the doctors on Christmas Eve, he has a flu virus/cough etc, nothing they could prescribe for him. He's also got his top two teeth coming through.

I said that because when Cally was ill over christmas I was told that if the calpol etc wasn't bringing down her temp I had to get in touch with them. If its the decongestant aspect (I'm not sure what you mean by doesn't cut it), there are rubs that are quite effective. I used the olbas junior and found that really helped my two.

Yeah, what Beanie said.... Olbas is a life saver!! Also have you tried the Nasolsil (sp?) It's just a saline solution to sqirt up LO's nose to clear it - works wonders for Arianna

ditto i still give it to christopher but only ever use 5ml (he should have 10ml at his age) infact with his last ear infection and sever nasal congestion the consultant at the hospital actualy recommended it to us......so its obviously safe and YES it is very good for congestion..the guidlines were changed as parents were givin max does at 4 hours apart and the antihistamine was building up in the systems of younger babies..well with any drugs wether it be nurofen/capol/medised i ALWAYS leave 6-8 hours between doses because if u think that drugs take 4hours minimum to leave an adults system i dont see how it can take four hours to leave a babys system so id rather leave it a few more hours.

medised is safe when used correctly and from the corretcly stated age
