Hello,

When I went to aquanatal yesterday most of the other ladies were a few weeks ahead of me - and they all kept saying I look huge for 29 weeks

I've only put on 9 or 10 lbs but my bump really is massive and the rest of me still seems quite small. I think I look quite ridiculous.

This of course tallies with my midwife's estimate that my baby is on the larger side... how on EARTH am I going to push out a baby that big when I am so ruddy tiny? I have size 3 feet for goodness' sake!

Poor me

oh yes I see, no fluid needed here then

it must be the size 3 feet you know hun    I have them too. Are you sure its deffo baby thats big? Apparently mine isnt baby. Maybe they just dont know what they're on about!

xx

 Don't worry hun! Every bump is a different shape and size, I think we all compare others bumps and think we look too big/small.

I read about this yesterday in 'Birthing From Within' which I highly recommend (though don't keep it on the floor as I tripped up over mine and cut my foot  ) It says that Ina May says that you will get bigger, bigger than the baby. It goes on to say about how there is no doubt that a woman's uterus can grow to hold a large baby or twins but for some reason the belief that a woman's body can grow bigger is changed in labour. She says that men's consciousnesses are limited because they can only grow so big. But mothers grow bigger than the baby. Not just 10 cm but bigger than baby!

In 2nd tri I said a few times to OH that baby just couldn't grow any bigger because there wasn't enough space. But baby has continued to grow and will do so for a little while yet. And I know that he will fit and my body will grow to accomodate him. Its a natural process that happens without me having to do anything about it. Labour is natural too and though you may need some assistance it will only be for part of it - your body can adapt for most, if not all, of it.

Have a look at different birthing positions and the effects they have on your pelvis - semi-sitting for example decreases the diametre of your pelvis.

Don't worry, little Bex, it will all be over soon and you will have a beautiful little girl to make it all better

I loved what Kimbo said after the birth - that she'd never do it again but she'd do it 10 000 times for Leah. It made me smile because of the loving contradiction. For an unknown baby (which Connie still is in many ways) there are limits to what you feel confident about facing. But for your real baby, the one you hold in your arms, you'd do anything.

I got told at my anti d appointment that I was measuring just over, everyone keeps making comments at work like "are you sure you've only got one in there!" it really upsets me! The midwife said cus I was a biggish baby and hubby was a 9 pounder that this little one will probably be pretty big!!!!

I think people don't realise that they can cause worry and or offense when they compare bumps. Maybe your bump shows up more because you are so tiny. I saw a friend the other day who is 4'11''. She is 4 half months pregnant, but looks about 30 weeks. I am convinced it is because she is small and slim, the extra bumpiness just looks more noticable.

aww i wouldnt worry about it hun im fed up with people saying how big i look now everyone seems to want to comment :(

I am so glad you've got that book...i keep SHOUTING ABOUT IT :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

I read it years ago and still have a battered copy.....I can not recommend it highly enough........

And the continuum concept is food for thought too.......

Aw Katherine, what a lovely post... you've made me feel tonnes better.

How is your foot? I might try and get hold of a copy of that book to keep by my bed and NOT ON THE FLOOR :rotfl:

Happybunny, I think you're right. I'm 5'1" and normally a size 6/8 so I think I just look proportionally bigger than everyone else!

Feel tonnes better now girls; thank you

Awwww

Glad you've been cheered up by the positive posts already :)

I'm in the looking massive boat also, along with you and Tillytots. Not sure if mine is all baby or some fluid also. MW thinks baby is on the big side atm.

Mind you, I tend to notice less to other people when out and about as I am tall. Its only when you see me side on you go 'Whoah! Baby bump alert  :rotfl: And I don't really see many people to comment on my size. If I did I'd probably have something to say back

It is def a size 3 feet thing! I am also huge, which midwife kept telling me was excess fluid and def not a big baby, just back from my scan and..... SHE WAS WRONG!!! THe baby is 7lb already, oh my god, I was scared of giving birth before, how am I going to push out a baby that big!! (I was a size 6/8 before too)

my neice has a size 3 foot, is a size 6 and pushed out and 8 pound baby, she had a text book labour, whilst me, 5 foot 7 size 8 (clothes) and 6 in shoes, struggled with a 7 pound baby

so don't worry

Oh Im so glad Ive seen this!! I really hope my midwife is wrong about fluid too and its a ickle feet thing  I was also a size 6/8 and now Im HUGE!!!!!

I'm glad you feel a bit better
My foot is feeling well thank you :D I was surprised by how much damage I did though - it's not just the usual bumps or scrape that clumsy me gets all the time but cut! With blood coming out and everything :rotfl:
It is a good book though and I didn't get any blood on it :D

As long as she is growing nicely thats all that matters.

Im still small i think, as no one ever comments.

We need a lastest bump pic Bex's

At least people realise you're pregnant, i was out with some people from where we're working last night and i mentioned it and a girl said 'oh i didnt realise you were pregnant' :wall: bearing in mind im always in lycra tracksuits she must have thought im constantly bloated or something!

Join the club hun, i have an appointment tomorrow to decide whether i need a growth scan, as my markings on the fundal chart are 3 squares above the top line  Husband lovingly tracked it for me, and if it carries on growing at same rate...it'll be 11.7lb!!!!
we should start a biffa club!! :rotfl:
