.... my cats back ahs suddenyl gone all matted on minging, ive tried brushing it but it wont come back, should i shave it off/cut it off the big matted chunks?

she had a broken pelvis so struggles to do her back end as well anymore, its looking a right mess, ive tried brushing loads but there are really bad areas that i think are beyond repair... what do u think i should do?

Unless you're a hairdresser then dont touch you're cats hair with scissors or a shaver lol cause it will just look silly...smudge has a really fluffy tail and used to get loads of clingons so i trimmed the hair abit, only i cant haircut so it just looked all chunky and stupid after lmao...its grown back now.

Why not call in a cat hair dresser? Im going to get a pet pamperer to come and do smudge's coat soon :D

If its that badly matted then youre probably best to cut it and to keep that area trimmed short.
Matts arent very comfortable for an animal to have, i keep my guinea pigs bum trimmed because he keeps getting his poop stuck there lol.

You can cut it yourself but if you saw a pic of what i did to smudges poor tail you probably wouldnt :rotfl: :rotfl: bringing tears of laughter to my eyes just thinking of it !! hheheheheh

will the vets do it or shud i just go to a pet parlor thingy?

Not sure if the vets would, if they did theyd probably charge silly money to do it. If you dont want to do it yourself then prob best going to the pets parlour

I had a cat that had persian in him and his coat no matter how much he was brushed always got matted. Used to just cut them out, yes he looked silly but he was at least comfortable. Dont think the local lady cats would notice the odd baldy patch ;)

my friend cuts her cats lugs off and shaves them if necessary.

no idea but if you ring i bet they would be able to quote you.

I am not saying i would leave my cats uncomfortable otherwise i wouldnt of cut the matts out of smudges tail. I am just saying that I wouldnt do it again i would get someone that knew how to do it to do him. No other cats dont notice it but why should my cat walk around with big chunks of hair missing when it can be done properly, and it isnt good for the regrowth of their fur either, when you cut hair wrongly it never grows back nicely but grows back in every which direction.

I had a cat like that, she had to get a lot shaved off. I think it was nearly 40 quid but it was worth it. It was after I had jess it got out of control as she really needed groomed everyday. Eventually her and her sister went to a new home where this would happen. Worst day of my life.

Vet nurse jumps in - please be VERY careflu if you decide to cut the matts of your self as it is SO very easy to cut a bit too close and then your cat needs a trip to the vet for stitches.
If your cat is fairly docile you might be able to get away with going in to your vets and see if they have nurse appoinments and they might be able to just clip the areas that are bad.(total around £15 - possibly free if its quick)
If she isn't happy about being brushed etc you can book her in for what we call a 'de-matt' she will be given a mild sedative and then clipped but you have to remember it a vets not a grooming parlour so it could be a bit patchy! (total would be around £30-40) otherwise phone a cat groomer - i have no idea how much they charge though

Im thinking of getting some highlights done on smudge, a few blue and red stripes maybe?? maybe some braids down his tail (its fluffly enough)
any other styling ideas?

cas xx

PS: Im joking (before i start a forum war lol)
