Maternity Leave

Yep, 6 months maternity leave is being increased to 9 months leave from April. :)

Will this only apply though if your baby is born befor a certain date though?

I'm sure there is a cut-off date i'll have a look

Taken from Oxford resource centre website:

Additional Maternity Leave

At present all new mothers are entitled to 6 months 'ordinary maternity leave' following the birth of a child.

In addition, those who are employees and who have completed six months' continuous service at the 15th week prior to the expected week of confinement (EWC) are entitled to take a further period of 6 months known as 'Additional Maternity leave' (AML).

For births after 1st April 2007 this six-month qualifying period will be abolished, so all employees who have babies will be entitled, as of right, to a full year's leave.

The right to take AML will continue to be restricted to employees only. Other groups of workers will not benefit from the new rights.

so its up to a year paid leave or is it 6 months paid and 6 months unpaid?

from april it will be 9 months paid leave, not sure about the remaining part though

Maternity Allowance is changing from 1st April. MA is a benefit you claim if youre not entitled to SMP from your employer. Currently you can get 26 weeks pay and after 1st April its 39. MA is 90% of your earnings up to about £104 a week whichever is the lesser.

But on the Mat B1 it has to be DUE after April 1st so doesnt matter if die March 29th-31st and baby comes after April 1st you will NOT get the 39 weeks just the original 29,it sucks!
