Maternity Leave

I know i've got a while to go but i'm planning on taking the year off on maternity leave, i know i continue to get some of my wages for the first 6 months and then the 2nd 6 months is unpaid, is there any help with money for the 2nd 6 months?

Your tax credits should increase because of the lower income

But wont that be next year? Because they work it out on the previous years income don't they??

you can ring them up to say your income's changed - they adjust it for the rest of this year.

you'll get them when baby arrives, they'll assess it on your income from a couple of years ago, then you ring them up again when they've finalised your claim to say your income has changed. They only back date it for 3 months though
