"Maternity care is not as good as it should be,"

I agree tbh, you go for weeks sometimes months with out seeing a midwife, majority off ladys go to forums like this for advice

I found that the care during my pregnancy was pretty poor, I had to go to a drop in each time and see a different midwife every time so there was no continuity of care. Once I was home they forgot to come and see me twice, meaning I stayed in waiting for them and ended up phoning at the end of the day only to be told, oops, sorry we forgot. The care at the hospital however was amazing, I had one to one care the whole time and couldn't fault them at all. When we ran into problems they responded quickly and kept me calm and felt so lucky to have had the care that I did.

I realise that community midwives aren't doing a bad job, they simply have too much work, not enough hands and too little time - it's a very stressful job that I certainly couldn't do, so I hope the Government sorts it out sharpish.

I'll be honest I found my care was excellent! My mw always phoned me back if I had a question the same day, usually the same hour, I was quite happy not to have the interference of loads of mw appointments, pregnancy and birth is a natural thing and the less messing IMO the better. The care I recieved at the hospital was amazing! Really one to one care, absolutely spot on, like a home from home environment, not clinical at all, even when I lost 600ml of blood all at once they kept it calm and allowed my body to deal with it whilst keeping an eye on me. My problem is actually now! I think the care after birth is terrible! Not impressed at all!

On the whole, mine was very good, but the trouble is its very inconsistent across the country :(

My community midwives were ok, although I never seemed to see much of her. In hospital there was no one about! They asked me to complain about the lack of staff as it's the only thing that supports the unit to request more funding, absolutely crazy. The midwife who delivered Ross was very skilled and I couldn't fault her, but she only really had time to jab me with diamorphine before heading off to deliver 4 other babies, then returned at the last gasp. Now it's the HV I just can't understand. At 4 months she said that was the assessment over and she wouldn't contact me again until he was a year  When I asked how I'd get him weighed (he was dropping centiles) she said she might be able to fit him into the clinic she and the GP do for 6 week postnatal checks, but they are very busy!
