Bray is learning to do makaton at nursery and can do please thank u etc.
but i have no idea wots right and wrong wen his doing it, and would really like to be able to do it with him
as i feel its important he knows at least the basics.
does anyone know a good way to learn it i e books dvds etc as i cant really go to the classes

 Someone on here knows lots about adult classes... I think... THINK...its daftscotslass but may be wrong... I learnt it as a kid with my siblings and because they had downs we got free lessons... You could contact a charity called Mencap who will be able to give you further details for your area :)

Thanks Squig, I'm not sure about classes but I use it at work as we have an ASN (special needs) unit attached to our school. All the classes I've been to have been run by our local authority so I'm not sure about them other than that. Like Squiglet says Mencap might be able to help.

I had a few copies of the Makaton manual kicking about, think I've lost my own one ( ) but will seek them out. If I can't find it I'll make you a copy next month when I'm back at work. I will scan you the basics later if I can find them if you like. There are lots of packs you can buy and I highly recommend watching Mr. Tumble on the BBC http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/something ... /mrtumble/ as he uses Makaton to sign.

oh somethinng special on cbeebies will be brilliant for you!!

i tried watchin Beebies but im a slow learner and they just move on sooo quick
thank u soooo much daftscotlas

Something Special on cbeebies is fantastic!!

I do baby sign at Sing and Sign classes, mainly for social aspects for April, because I can sign BSL and Makaton as I am a Special Needs teacher.

Interestingly, I always find a slight variations in signs wherever I go. Even if you use a book or DVD, it is highly likely that Braydon may know a slightly different sign for some words. It might be best to ask his nursery teachers to show you the secific ones that they use (or even better, ask them to organise a parent's workshop, so that all parents can learn the signs and use them at home!)

Sing and Sign do a DVD which shows basic signs through nursery rhymes and songs (a good way to remember and practice them for both of you!), althought the 'products' page seems to be down at the minute.... http://www.singandsign.com/
