My LO's 5th bday is in July, and I want to have a magician, but all the quotes I have been given are for around £200  , is this how much you would expect to pay for a magician nowadays? I can't afford those prices!!! :?

Crikey! No idea but I'd never pay that much either- £50 max! Can you get a magic set and pursuade a family member to learn how to use it and put on a fake beard?! Or get the kids to do tricks in turns with a magic set having made a small "stage" type area?

Failing that could you just do a magic/harry potter themed party and play lots of games but change the names to magical things? I.e. sticky glue you could call magic finger, you could do a craft like make rabbits in the hats out of kitchen towel inners and a paper rabbit shape on a straw, er decorate wizard hats with star stickers and ribbons, play kim's game with things on a tray and a scarf over it and ask what you have made vanish- that kind of thing?

Just found a few ideas online, some of these links are to people selling things but there are lots of free ideas too:-

Here's a white rabbit mask they could make and then play at bouncing out from behind things:-

Hope these might help

p.s. I'm a Guide Guider, does it show?! Seriously though my Guides are 10-15 year olds and they'd love a lot of the ideas on these sites

my sister had a magician on saturday for her wedding for the children & it was over £100 for just over an hour, but it was a fantastic show :D

just make sure you get loads of prices because they can be very different :D
