Well, I was induced for reduced fetal movements and as I was already under consultant for fibroids he didn't want me going over, so thought it would be best to start an induction off. Went in on e Friday, was examined and cervix posterior and they were barely able to get to it!! Propess went in at 1 I think, and was then left for 24 hrs, no contractions
the propess fell out down the loo the following morning so they put another one in, once the first 24 hrs was up, I was examined again and no change, cervix still posterior, and closed :/ they didn't leave me the full 24 hrs on a rest day, and put a 2nd propess in on the Sunday morning, Once this 24 hrs was up the was very slight change, and was barely 1cm dilated and again cervix posterior still. I was really fed up!! Had seen a few women come through and have there propess, contractions start and then they were whisked off to labour ward! My consultant came to examine me on the Tuesday Morning to see if the time without the second propess ( removed Monday) had done anything...... I was 2-3cm dilated surprisingly!! His plan? To get me to labour ward and brake waters if they can and pop up the drip. Got called down to labour ward just after lunch on 3rd, Tuesday
had a male midwife, who was lovely. He tried to break waters, but cervix still awkward and he got the senior midwife in, who did a grand job,although slightly painful when trying to get there, took the two of them!!
So waters now gone, this was 2.45 ish, I can't really remember times but I know pains started instantly! Was popped on monitor and when everything was ok he sent me off for my last supper and was told to come back about 5-5.30, when they would pop up the drip to get things moving. Oh needed to get some food so we took a walk to the canteen on the main part of the hospital. It's about a ten minute walk, I could feel contractions heating up a bit, but didn't think anything of it as they felt just like period pains,so just took time. Got to canteen, had a baguette, phoned my mum to update her, and jokingly told oh to get his food in a takeaway tub just incase!! He barely finished eating when I said, I think we should make our way back as they were coming every 4 minutes and quite painful (I did manage to finish baguette first lol!!) made our way back and lt more waters go as got in the lift (felt like loads, was horrid !) got back to labour ward and midwife was surprised to see me so soon, I explained they were coming every 4 mins, he popped me back on monitor, where they showed up as quite strong, he got doctor in to put a cannula in, and got drip ready to go. Midwife examined me again and was 4cm
drip started and contractions got very very painful, at one point he was out of the room for not even 5 minutes and they were constant. I said I need more pain relief so had pethidiine, within 'minutes I was like I need to push now!! Cue involuntary pushing, the midwife running around opening packets thinking ftm, what does she know.....he then stopped in his tracks and said 'sorry honey, I take it all back I can see the head, don't push, I haven't got gloves on!!!' The pethidiine didn't have time to work, I pushed and screamed my head off (I said I wouldn't do that!! Haha) even more waters broke, (literally flooded the place - went everywhere!!)and I then pushed Luke Albert out at 18.26 with only a few stitches needed as tore a little but no episiotomy needed
he is a super star!!
Got discharged yesterday just after lunch and whilst reading my notes they give you to take away, my labour was described as : latent phase 1hr25mins 2nd stage: 21 minutes!!!
Luke weighed 9lb 3.75oz!! Our little chunky monkey
)
Midwife was shocked at how quick it all happened, he thought he wouldn't see baby born by end of his shift. I didn't get to use tens machine,I laboured on the bed and gave birth on the bed....I couldn't even bounce on the ball to ease pains! One thing though gas and air was awesome!!
