Well im back from my dr appointment and I just feel like rubbish. She said everything was normal except my oestrogen level which was low or border line. It is 49. I have now to wait 2 bloody months till I can get an appointment with a specialist till they can even see what and if I can ever have a baby. I dont feel like I know anything or have an ansewer! Limbo for another 2 months when i already have been for 6 months after my mc. Do any of u know what this low 49 oestrogen means?

I don't know I'm afraid but didn't wanna read & run, I hope one of the girls can give you more info

Hi hun, I had a look and found this:
"Why do oestrogen levels fall?

There are many reasons why oestrogen levels fall, including:
  • Hypogonadism (ovarian failure)
  • Hypopituitarism (an underactive pituitary gland)
  • pregnancy failure (oestriol)
  • the perimenopause and the menopause (oestradiol)
  • polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS)
  • anorexia nervosa (eating disorder)
  • extreme exercise or training
Medicines that may decrease levels of oestrogen include clomiphene. In addition, women experience low levels of oestrogen immediately after childbirth and also during breastfeeding."

Dont know if it helps? I cant seem to find what level they should be, but it could be something as simple as mild PCOS? So I would try not to worry too much.

Thanks Niaomi, Im just so gutted just now Im not thinking straight. I went expecting bad news but when you actually get it its just so hard hitting! I feel like Ive been in limbo forever. I dont even have an af so cant even ttc as I dont know when or even if Im ovulating! I will have to go do some reading now I guess!

Try not to worry too much - theres a high chance that there is some sort of treatment out there for you that will be effective (thats if you need any at all) lots of women with irregular/missing cycles manage to conceive - it just may take a bit longer than you hoped! :hugs:

Really sorry Hun,
:hugs:

I'm not really sure what it means, I know Clomid helps all the different hormones in a cycle, might that help you?

You could always call back and ask the doc to explain in a bit more detail what the results mean, I've done that before now and it's helped.

xx

Hey laura, sorr the appointment didnt go that well, as maybe said clomid helps with balancing hormones. 2 months for an appointment sucks, but seems to be very common with the NHS.

Wish i could give you more info, maybe go back and ask your doc to explain a bit more.

xx

Hey hunny

Sorry you didn't have better news at the doctors, I don't know much about hormone balance but as the other ladies have mentioned there are treatments such as clomid which can help.

I had to wait 10 weeks for my fertility appt, I think its a longer waiting list depending on the area you live in, but the good news is that once I saw my specialist things progressed very quickly, so hopefully they will for you to.

Chin up chick you will get there, we all will xxxxxxxxxx

Really sorry Laura

It seems that the minumum oestrogen level is about 50pg/ml - where in your cycle were you when you had the blood tests?

I can understand you feeling really deflated right now, you just can't prepare yourself for some things :(

The good news is that it can be as simple as increased consumption of oestrogen or medication :)

You can have supplements and creams and apparently red meat, eggs and dairy are rich in oestorgen

There are also some food which inhibit oestrogen such as brocolli, cabbage, corn, onions, grapes and pineapple :eh:

Ew - and most oestrogen in medication comes from horse pee?!

Horse pee???? Ha ha Louise where do you find this stuff lol :p

WOW thats crazy! horse wee, trust you to find this louise!

Hey Girls, thanks for your comments.

Louise I dont know where I am in a cycle which is a big problem as I bled for every 2 weeks since my mc on 18th Feb. Then stopped completely on the 9th of May and Ive had nothing. So I dont appear to be ovulating I dont think. She did say that the levels differ at different cycle points.

Interesting about the foods. I asked her if there was anything I could eat or whatever and she said no. Although she has a track record of being a little vacant. When I was pregnant I asked if I could eat feta and she said you can eat what you want pregnancy is not an illness!

I dont eat red meat but do eat all the rest. I eat half a pineapple once a week about so maybe should skip that! Just want to be proactive. Its so frustrating the whole thing.

Had to get hubby an appointment at the specialist clinic for semen analysis and its on Thurs, yes this Thurs! Hows that right!
