I know ome may laff at me but i had a nice day out with my kids oday, came home and fgound our bunny dead in his run   nothing killed him, he looked like he had gone to sleep and died in his sleep. He had a tiny bit of blood from his nostril, but didnt look scared or anything. Nothing could have got to him, there was no blood anywhere, the run was locked. My youngest was sooooo in love with him, telling her was heartbreaking. We had him really tame he was more like a dog, house trained and everything.

hun i dont think ur silly its heartbreaking when pets die

aaaarw poor claire, i love animals and cried my eyes out when our rottie died

 i'm so sorry its really sad when pets die and it must be even worse seeing ur children upset about it

Thank you all, you feel really silly sometimes cuz they're not people or a dog, but he was like a dog!! Has anyone else had a rabbit die like this? I've heard he could have had a heart attack, but as i said there was no signs that anything attacked him, he plays with our big alsation all the time but he was locked in the entry. plus he wasn't even 1 til may.

im so sorry  its horrible to loose a part of the family (which to me is what they are)

ah so sorry hun its hard when they are so close to the family sending lots of hugs

Tracey hun, i love your little girls name, how sweet xxxxxxx

Awww thats really sad sorry to hear that
I have a pet bunny who I love to bits so I don't think your silly at all.

Thanks, we're going on a bunny hunt tomorrow when OH is off work cuz my daughter is lost without him, as shes only 4 i think it will take her mind off losing Thumper! Its gotta be a baby one though and one that comes to us first like Thumper did. Even the dog looks lost without him, he keeps going outside and looking in the empty hutch :(

I'm really sorry hun, i was upset when my mums rabbit died a couple of weeks ago, It must be worst seeing your little girl upset too.

Firstly hunni am so sorry

we breed rabbits so we are in the know a little bit.

How old was he??
Did you notice a certan puffed up belly at all ?

Oh no Claire  sometimes its harder losing pets than people as they are so pure and genuione, sorry for your loss hun

Sorry to hear this hun.....pets are like family members.....I've always felt so down when we've lost a pet :(

I'm so sorry, i understand how you feel, i got upset when i had my rats Put to sleep, or if they died even though i am a veterinary nurse!. Each animal is so special and such a character. Some people said i was being silly and i could just get another.
But Each is an individual.

Was the rabbit vaccinated? as it sounds like it could have been Viral Haemorrhagic disease, it gives no outgoing symptoms and they die quickly so they do not suffer, it just sounds like it due to the blood on his nose, and also because the rabbit was quite young.

I would recommend giving the cage a good clean out and disinfect it, just incase.

My Rabbit Skippy was 10 when i had to have him PTS after a stroke. i was devastated.

Have a look at this link,
http://www.rabbitwelfare.co.uk/rwf/articles/vhd.htm it explains it abit more
