Losing confidence in the medical profession

I don't post much on here but I feel I need to have a good moan about my experiences to date with the medical profession.

When I was 5 weeks pregnant I went to my doctor to get the wheels in motion so to speak. Unluckily my doctor was off that day, so I had to see a locum. He was a bit of an old git and at first told me there was no way I could be pregnant since I had miscarried in July. When I showed him my test he then told me to come back in 2 weeks IF I was still pregnant - not exactly a nice thing to say to someone who recently had a miscarriage. Luckily I saw my real doctor next time who is actually a nice guy.

I got to 10 weeks and had heard nothing about either a midwife appointment or a scan. I rang up and eventually managed to get an appointment booked. I was told the scan appointment would then be sent out.

So I'm now 12 weeks tomorrow, and had heard nothing about a scan. I assumed it was stuck in the post somewhere because of the strikes, but when I rang today it turned out that hadn't been booked either. They then offered me one when I will be over 14 weeks, so I queried it and it turned out they had my dates all wrong and were using my ovulation date as a LMP date. Since I'd had a miscarriage in July, I hadn't actually had a period before conceiving again, so they had just used the first date they could find on my forms.

So now I have a midwife appointment and scan next week, but I've had to go to so much effort to get this far. Surely I shouldn't be having to chase around like this just to get my appointments?

Anyone else had this kind of trouble or am I just unlucky?

Sounds like a real pain in the neck! So insensitive of that locum chap to say what he did, too - I'd be fuming!

Personally I haven't had quite such a palava, but I have had to chase the midwife to get her to ring me, which she finally did last night and I had a good 25 minute chat with her, but that was after ringing 4 times to see why she hadn't contacted me over a period of 2 weeks.

Let's hope everything starts to go more smoothly for you from now on!

Hello

my doc at the moment is really good but when I lived in Edinburgh I went to see this old doctor who was foreign (could not understand me) and awful.
I told him (1 week after my m/c) that I thought I had an infection due to discharge. This guy asked how I knew I had a miscarried and didn't believe me, I told him in shock that scans and actually passou sing the fetus....sorry if TMI but can you imagine having to say that a week after it happening, still in shock.
You get some good docs and some..... well......say no more....
hope your faith returns and you see some good people, docs, nurses who will look after you x

unfortunately at this stage it can all be so anonymous - you are just another name to be booked for a scan with little known about your history - I used to be a doctor at the hospital I am waiting for a scan appontment from and my husband is a consultant there - I also have a high risk pregnancy with 2 miscarriages and preeclampsia so will have consultant lead care - when I phone the hospital to ask for any news of a scan appointment (I have 3 small children who will need looking after, picking up from school/playgroup) I am told to stop being impatient and that I hvent been allocated a date yet - I feel like pretneding to be a gp when I ring on behalf of a patient - I might actually get some info that way - have found this with all my pregnancies (this is my 6th) once you get further on and build a relationship with the midwives and antenatal clinic things change and you are a person again - the waiting is the worse especially having had a m/c and wanting to know all is ok - just try to put it to the back of your mind and the weeks will pass all too quickly - good luck!!
