Long-term sick due to pregnancy

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone knows the rules...

I qualified as a primary teacher in July 2009, worked on supply for a year and have just started my first full-time job in September - although I am only contracted for 2 days and paid through supply for the other 3 due to school funding.

Since getting the job I found out I was pregnant and informed the school of this. I have recently had a number of problems with the pregnancy including continuous bleeding (I'm 17 weeks) and my doctor has now advised that I stop work - and would be happy to write a note for this.

Whilst I don't want to give up my lovely new job, I know I'd feel awful if I went docs advice and I lost the baby, but I'm not sure whether I'd be entitled to any sick pay as:
a) I've only been at the job 5 weeks and;
b) I'm only on on a contract for two of the days a week.

I believe that in the first 4 months of service I'm entitled to 5 weeks (only for my 2 contracted days) sick pay - is this the same for maternity related illness?

Obviously I won't be entitled to maternity pay from school as I've not been there long enough but I should be entitled to maternity allowance as I've had 26 weeks of employment/self-employment if I take into account supply last year as well. Will this have to start straight away after the 5 weeks sick pay or can I claim Employment and Support Allowance until 11 weeks before due date?

Sorry for all the questioning but I'm just so confused! Hope someone can shed light on some of this...

I am not sure about your job as i know each one is different - have you checked your contract?

You would get statutory sick pay but i know its not much

Do you have an HR contact you can speak to in confidence?

sorry i cant be of more help.

our contract says we only get paid after the 4th day of sickness and its Stat Sick Pay which is like £10 a day but not sure thats for more than a week, i think youd be best getting signed off work and just seeing what you could claim x
