Sorry if I havent put this in the right section, if you have a loan do you get any kind of help to pay it when on maternity and if you dont go back to work full time? Is it taken into account when working out your benifits etc?

Sorry hun as far as i know you still have to pay it as you would if you were working, your maternity benifits do not take loans, mortgages etc... into account.

If you are worried the best thing to do is to phone the loan company and explain your circumstances and see if the can help you

Good luck

did you get any insurance? Sometimes banks etc etc will cover you if you loose your job and stuff!

Def check with them!

If you can't pay it, then dont. work out your diposable income each month, and just pay the loan people what you can afford to pay. No matter how small, if you are making the effort there aint a lot they can do about it. A few threatening letters - which all mean nothing - and if you do go to court, all they will say is that you pay something daft like £1 per month. But very rarely will it go to court - as long as you dont ignore it and you make them an offer. It's not illeagal, the worst that can happen is you will get bad credit.

Thanks for the replies Kate and piglet, thankyou very much for the offer Kate thats very kind of you, this is a old thread from last year and unfortunatly I am not pregnant and the doctors believe I had an early miscaragen so didnt have to worry about it after all, I am expecting to wait until I have paid my loan off before ttc!

Most companies that offer loans and mortgage payments have flexibility where if you state that you are pregnant and will be financially insecure on a temporary basis they may consider reducing your loan amount.

However most loan/mortgage companies now offer payment breaks anyway... I think your only allowed 2 a year.... but still a great help.

I plan once i get pregnant and the baby actually arrives to phone up and take a mortgage payment break for 2 months... then after that finishes phone up my bank and ask for a 2 month break on my loan.... so technically for 4 months il have reduced payments.

Worth a go, but dont forget to pay them... it just ends up worse in the long run and they will be less willing to help you when you are struggling.

I have a loan and a mortgage so am quite worried about it too, but iv decided as soon as i find out am pregnant am going to try and put past £200 each month to cover those costs when am off.... (That £200 wont be missed it will be the money i usually spend on clothes and alcohol each month! which obviously i wont be spending on when pregnant!)

Good luck hunni x
