I've just been told I have a lipoma on the back of my neck.

I've googled them and can see that they are harmless, but want to know...

Anyone else have one?

If so, are they sore when tired and itchy at times?

Am I likely to need to have it removed?

The specialist was very dismissive of my worries and told me to relax, there was virtually no chance of malignancy, but my mother died of cancer. I have had gland problems on my right side too including in my right breast and I'm terrified of Hodgkin's (sp?)

So naturally I'm a big old worrywart!

Anyone?

Hi

Sorry I have no knowledge about this but just wanted to say hope your feeling ok etc and try not to worry. I'm sure they would have been honest if they were concerned about it in the hospital.

My friend had Hodgkins Lymphoma and is all better now but it wasn't nice. They had concerns with her from the start though and did warn her it was likely to be a bad outcome when they started doing tests so I'm sure they would have been honest if they were concerned about it in the hospital.

Thanks so much girls. Really good of you to send me your wishes.

So far I have found this out...

A lipoma is a benign fatty tumour that develops for no known reason in the fatty layer of the skin. It doesn't normally cause trouble, but mine is itchy and sore from time to time, which was what had me worried. You know, the kind of niggle that you have to keep reminding yourself is "probably nothing".

I AM glad I got it checked out though, the specialist initially said that it was an overactive gland and that I was only to worry if the nature of the swelling changed. It did - becoming softer and sore and itchy. So the second diagnosis - not a gland at all but a lipoma. Having an ultrasound soon.

Fingers crossed!

Hi there , yes you are correct Lipoma is just a fatty tissue lump, some times they can start getting bigger, and i presume the itching would be from the skin stretching.
