ok ,how much would u say was too much lifting when pregnant an with the start of spd too ?

would u say weight mattered more then quanity ?

to give u some idea of what i done today , from 9.30 till 4 pm i was lifting 2.5l of paint tins , constantly one after the other , i have to take a tin off the shelve , put a new label on it ( completely covers tin) and put it back o shelf

would u say this is too much ? would u do it or put ya finger down and say no ? ive had issues at work when theyve said if im not fit to do my job then i shouldnt be there but is this too much for a pregnant women ?

i'm not sure that anything is written about what constitutes too much lifting (either weight or time-wise) but you know your own body. if its the sort of thing you did before getting pregnant and you feel happy still doing it, then there's no reason why you shouldn't carry on as long as you're being careful.
however, if you're finding it too much and think that you might be harming yourself or your LO, then you have to say something to your bosses - this should be covered in the mandatory h&s risk assessment anyway.

I dont think you should be doing it and I also think that your company has a bad attitude it they are saying that to you. If you can't do your job due to your pregnancy then they have to find you alternative work.

I personally wouldnt be happy with that kind of work and would push to do something lighter for definate. They have a really bad attitude and I think its disgusting to be honest, I wouldn't stand for it as you are pregnant and have a right to take things easier for the next few months!

I would have thought they would have to give you lighter work to do.

I had my H&S assessment at work last week, and was basically told by HR that they didn't want to see me carrying anything heavier than a notepad. I even have to leave my laptop at work or get someone else to lug it back and forth to the car for me.

I'm also not allowed to get the brew round in at work cos of carrying the tray, though my colleagues just thought I was trying to get out of brew duties lol.

I think to be honest the company I work for are being a little over the top, but I suppose they are covering their backs.

As for them saying 'If you're not fit to do your job etc' , then that's as maybe while you're pregnant, but it's not like it's some permanent physical disability, and they do have a duty to offer lighter work if it exists.

If they don't play ball, I'd see if your doc can sign you off for a bit with your SPD, see if that changes your employer's attitude.

personally hun I wouldnt do it. Have work done the risk assesment? I was under the impression that if there are parts of your job that may be too much for you then they have to give you lighter duties or find you more suitble things to do. Firstly you shouldnt be lifting heavy loads, although paint isnt majorly heavy, repetetive lifting constitutes to a heavy load. Also you should not be standing for long periods. If your working hours are too much also, they must be flexible to suit you. If for whatever reason they cannot find you anything lighter to do then Im sure that you should be suspended on full-pay.
These might help:

and more on suspension with pay

Dont be afraid to say no to them hunni

NO! I dont think you should be lifting those all day Gem!!!!!!

got another day of it tomorrow  off to lay in bed with me book

debs , catch u tomorrow chick yeh ?

just remembered , ive got a number to ring , kind of a helpline , might give those a bell , im so scare to tell work i cant do it , feel like a whimp but its proper hard work

my back is killing :wall: and when my back hurts it sets off my restless legs and was up with those till 2 , im sure its cos im worrying about this too , i was a bit crampy last night but he was fairly active when i went bed so hope all was ok .

i dont wanna do today

Hope work are ok with you today. Maybe have a quick word, on the quiet with a supervisor? IF you say you cannot do it, pretty sure they'd be breaking all kinds of laws, if a) they made you do it, or b) made you leave.

The suspension with full pay might be an idea if you're suffering tho hon?

xx

Sorry you're having to worry about this.

My company are a bit ignorant of maternity legislation as well but I had a quiet word with my boss and just told him I loved my job ( :fib: ) but there were elements I wouldn't be able to do any more - ilke lifting and carrying crates at exhibitions. I said I'd be happy to have a chat about what other duties I could take on instead and now get more admin than lifting stuff. He just didn't realise there were things I wouldn't be able to do and a quick hint about H&S legislation and he was more than happy to help

Hope you can sort something out
